On January 10th, my group and the other Women’s Rights group went to a broadway performance called “Emotional Creature”. Emotional Creature was about the broad topic of a teenage girls life, and showing the audience many different scenarios of what girls go through. We saw scenarios of rape, physical abuse, body image/eating disorders, boys, hormones and so much more. Emotional Creature gave us a picture of how many things girls suffer through. The performance was funny, yet dramatic and emotional at the same time. It gave us an amazing perspective on teenage girls lives all around the world, and even gave you a perspective on a normal girls life living in America. There were five teenage girls, all telling their stories about life as a teenage girl. They would also switch characteristic at some part of the performance, so some of the girls would tell their story as a young teenage girl living in a different country. Stories were told from China, African Congo, Russia and more. I thought that this was a very inspirational performance. I loved the fact that I could connect to it deeply in the idea of living as a teenage girl. I loved how you could laugh, cry and feel so heartfelt at the same time. It was a really brilliant performance that is worth being seen by teenage girls, older women and even boys. This was also a very good broadway performance connecting to Womens’ Rights issues.
