On Thursday, November 29 my group and I went to the DA’s office in Brooklyn. We interviewed multiple people and what their job is at the office. First we met with Michelle Kaminsky who is a domestic violence attorney. We had worked with Michelle before and had another discussion with her. One person we interviewed was Wanda Lucibello, Wanda is the head attorney in the domestic violence section. Wanda has been working as an attorney for 30 years, but she only came to the domestic violence branch 15 years ago. My group interviewed a social worker, Farah Rodriguez. Farah began working as a social worker five years ago. She works with teen dating violence, which means that she works with 16-19 year olds. A social worker is usually someone who works with the victims and helps them with their situation or to gather information from the victim on what may have happened. She usually asks questions such as, how long have you been together, how old are you, and what school do you go to. Usually the couples that she works with also have a kid which makes the situation much more complicated. We were able to see one of the cases. We saw how they were laid out and how she might work with those files. I was surprised to find out that some of the cases that she works with can go on for up to a year. There are usually 25 social workers in the office plus interns that work with the social workers. It is very hard to be a domestic violence attorney or social worker because it is such a complicated but very personal and emotional job at the same time.
