Welcome Back to School!

Dear Families,

A warm welcome back to school!  While I trust many of you had wonderful summers, our students also seem to be happy to be back at school, judging from the bursting smiles and warm hugs that were going around and around this week.  For our part, we’re delighted to have them back, and to welcome our youngest, newest members of the LREI family!

Beyond the usual getting classrooms ready for the first day, our beautiful new “greened” second grade classrooms were remodeled on the top floor, and a new cheery cafeteria floor greets students in the basement.  Other changes for the new school year include second, third and fourth graders eating lunch family style at tables.  While we’re still working out details as students and grown-ups alike work out new jobs and routines, they generally seem to enjoy it and no one misses the long lunch line!

Down the block, ninth graders had an in-depth orientation to the Charlton Street high school building, which was partially remodeled and expanded last spring. It is such a beautiful space, I encourage you to see it!

Here is a slideshow of just a few snapshots of our first day on Tuesday.  Below you’ll find notes from teachers and important reminders.  Next week we’ll have five whole days of school in a row, so please get plenty of rest because school will really get going!

Sincerely,
Namita Tolia

fluffy

Dear Friends,

Gina shared the sad news with us all that Fluffy the bunny died peacefully last weekend. He was an extraordinary and sweet little bunny, who brought joy and a smile to all.  It was good that Fluffy lived a long, full life with Gina and many years of first graders.  The hard part is saying goodbye to a very special pet, and friend to many teachers and children.  We are missing Fluffy. If your child has memories of Fluffy and would like to write a note or make a drawing, that is fine to do.  Notes and drawings should be brought to Namita’s office and I will put together a book of these for Gina.  If Fluffy meant a lot to your child in particular and they feel a need to visit Gina to give a hug, please help them do this before school or after school rather than during the school day.  (This is much easier on the current first graders).  Notes and pictures can be brought to Namita’s office any time and there will be an envelope on the door in case there is a meeting in progress.  Feel free to contact me with any questions.  Thanks for your support!

Sincerely,
Namita Tolia
