Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced an official impeachment inquiry for President Donald Trump. She announced this on September 24th. The House voted on it 10/30, but the verdict is thought to be released later this week. But what does impeachment mean? Contrary to popular belief, it does not mean that the President is “fired”, although it can lead to that. It means the action of calling into question the integrity or validity of something, and/or a charge of misconduct made against the holder of a public office. (Oxford Dictionary). Simply put, it is questioning an action made by someone working in an office/government. Pelosi has been questioning a few of Trump’s actions, saying that they are unlawful and unconstitutional. The basis of her argument is allegations against Trump that say he asked the Prime Minister of Ukraine for information on Joe Biden and his son, and until given the information Trump would withhold money supporting Ukraine. Many republicans have supported the inquiry purely “to eliminate any doubt as to whether the Trump administration may withhold documents, prevent witness testimony, disregard duly authorized subpoenas, or continue obstructing the House of Representatives.” More details to the case are unfolding, as both sides prepare strong defenses.
