Broadway Buzz

Broadway NewsHey everyone! Recently, a lot has been happening in the Broadway community. Over the weekend, BroadwayCon was held. BroadwayCon includes Q&As, performances, and meets and greets with some of your favorite Broadway stars. It closed January 13th but one is held every year so you still have a chance next year to go. The amazing show Once on This Island closed January 6th after 457 shows were performed. Playbill recently announced that The Notebook is coming off the screen and into the live theater! More details will be announced soon but for now, all we know is it will soon be a musical.

Musical of the WeekThis week’s musical is Wicked. On January 13th, it reached it’s 6,351th performance. The show takes a wild spin on a classic: The Wizard of Oz. Before Dorothy comes into town, we meet Elphaba, Jessica Vosk and Glinda, Kate Rose Clarke. Glinda is “popular”. She is the nice witch. Elphaba is the “Wicked Witch” and is literally green. People see her differently, like less important. An easy target. The show also has a romantic twist with a young man named Fiyero. Currently played by Ryan McCartan. Elphaba gets the chance to meet the Wizard, currently played by Kevin Chamberlin. When she meets him, will she change herself or wish for something different? Wicked, currently showing at the Gershwin Theater. Book by Winnie Holzman, music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, directed by Joe Mantello and choreographed by Wayne Cilento.
