_______Stop the Shots: Gun Violence

If you are passionate about arguing and debating, this is for you! You will learn about how people illegally obtain guns our country, why some people want to own guns, and how you can start to make a change.

________ CANstructing a Solution to Hunger

CANstruction is when you build creative sculptures out of cans. You won’t believe what you can make as you learn about hunger in the USA. You CANstruct a solution to hunger since all cans used in your activist art will be donated to St. John’s Food Pantry.

_______They Were Supposed to Protect Us: Police Brutality

Come and make a mural in memory of people lost to the plague of the police violence and racism in the USA. Make something beautiful and important and learn what YOU can do to prevent police brutality and raise awareness.

______Change Climate Change

If you want to change climate change, we will help you! In our workshop you will build a model of a renewable energy resource and play a fun game as you learn. Remember, there is NO planet B!

________ Fund our Futures: Education Inequity

If you care about education and the future of our country, come to this workshop! Build your own dream school as you find out how public schools are funded (or not funded).

________ Why not a Woman?: Women and the Workplace

Got mothers/grandmothers/aunts who work outside the home? Then this is for you! Play an interactive board game about the injustices that women face in the workplace. See if YOU will get promoted or have to start over!

_______ Families in Poverty: Break the Cycle

You will learn about the injustice that people living in poverty face while you play an engaging online game. Find out how help to decrease poverty in NYC!

________Speak Up, Speak Out: Freedom of Speech

If you enjoy writing, drawing, and connecting with people imprisoned for speaking their mind across the globe, come get to work! You will meet with the international human rights organization Amnesty International and make cartoons for, and write letters to, those in prison.

 ________ Don’t Waste Your Waste: Create    

We all live in one world, which is why we must take care of it. If you’re interested in art and the environment, come join us to upcycle! We will make wallets, baskets and art from items we throw away. You can even keep your creation!

______Healthier New York: Food and Health

For many of us, fast food or snacks purchased at a convenience store are a once-in-a-while treat. We don’t think twice about being able to get the healthy food we need from the supermarket. But did you know that for many families living in our city, it’s nearly impossible to buy fresh fruits, vegetables and healthy food? In our simulation, you will learn about what it is like to live in what is called a “food desert”-a reality that many in NYC face.

______We’re More Than Just an Image: Girls in the Media

Come get creative and make a stop-motion video! You will learn about how women are portrayed in the media and how it affects everyone’s self esteem—BOTH boys and girls!
