An Incredible LREI Resource: Our Librarians!

Dear Lower School Families,

Meet Stacy, Jesse, and Jennifer….

…and seek them out as a great resource on books, reading and other library materials. LREI students definitely do, and parents should also feel welcome. It’s an understatement to say they are brilliant at guiding book selection, promoting poetry appreciation, and sharing expertise on little known but important resources such as graphic novels and online databases. In addition, our supremely professional librarians serve on important committees in the book award world.

  • Stacy Dillon, Lower School Librarian, serves on the Grant Administration Committee and Library Service to Special Population Children and Their Caregivers Committee of the ALA. Because of her outstanding service on this and other committees, she is on the ballot to be elected to the Newbery Medal Committee on 2012. Wish her luck!
  • Jesse Karp, Early Childhood Librarian (and Interdivisional Librarian and also LREI ’87) is serving on the Young Adult Library Services Association’s (YASLA) Great Graphic Novels for Teens selection committee.
  • High School Librarian, Karyn Silverman, is chairing the Frances Henne Jury Award and serving on the YALSA Nominating Committee.
  • Middle School Librarian and Library Department Chair, Jennifer Hubert Swan, serves on the Young Adult Library Services Association’s Alex Award. The Alex Awards are given to ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults, ages 12 through 18. She’s on the ballot for the YALSA non-fiction award.

All parents are invited to get to know our award-winning librarians better at the “Learn your Library” session offered at school on October 30th at 8:30 in the 6th Avenue library.

Cheers,

Namita

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

An announcement from Michel de Konkoly Thege, Associate Director:

Dear Parents,

On Thursday, October 29, LREI will be renting a portion of our 272 Sixth Avenue building for an evening event during which The Gap and Stella McCartney will introduce a line of children’s clothes. LREI’s interest in this event is simply that we are renting our facility for a fee. We have no involvement in the commercial aspects of this event. However, the event organizers have asked whether some of our students in our 4s through 3rd grade classes might be interested in modeling the clothes that are to be introduced at this event.

If you are interested in having your child audition for this activity, please contact Ann Landy at AO Production via email at alandy@aoproduction.com. All communications concerning this opportunity should be addressed to Ms. Landy, since LREI will not have any further involvement other than bringing it to your attention.

Thanks,
Michel
