Summer Book Review

thThis summer I read a book called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. It never mentioned the time but I think it took place in the mid 1900’s. It mostly took place in a magic school called Hogwarts, a road in London called Privet Drive, and a train station also in London. The main characters are Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. The biggest problem is they think someone will steal a secret stone and they have to try and get to the stone before the thief.

Harry has to live with his very mean Aunt, Uncle, and very fat cousin since his parents were killed in a fight against a very evil wizard called Voldemort when Harry was a baby. Harry lived because his mom protected him by sacrificing herself; when Voldemort tried to kill Harry he lost his powers and Harry got a lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead. Because his parents died he moved in with his Aunt and Uncle. They don’t like Harry because the mom and the aunt were sisters so when their mom found out that Lily Potter (Harry’s mom) was a wizard they were proud of her. But ashamed of the aunt because she wasn’t a wizard. That’s why they made him sleep in a cupboard underneath  the stairs.

One big event was when Harry got a very special broomstick and he made the Gryffindor team in a wizard game called Quidditch. Another one is when Harry, Ron,and Hermione all get picked for Gryffindor (Gryffindor is kind of like a cabin/team) out of 3 other teams when they all wanted to go to that team.  Also when a big troll got in the school and Harry and Ron had to defeat it even though they were not so good at magic. Harry also made very big decisions because on Christmas morning Harry got a magic cloak from Dumbledore (the very kind headmaster of Hogwarts) because Harry’s dad (James Potter) gave it to Dumbledore before he died. Harry, Ron, and Hermione make very dangerous decisions to sneak out of their  cabin at late night to find clues on what the Sorcerer’s Stone is and who they think is going to steal it. Also what they have to get past to get to the Sorcerer’s Stone.
I liked this book because I like mystery and action which there is a lot of in the book. I also liked that some good things happened to Harry instead of just being yelled at by his aunt and uncle. I also thought it was funny when Dudley (the cousin) went to the zoo on his birthday and leaned against glass that led into a snake habitat. Then  the glass disappeared and Dudley fell in and the snake escaped and then the glass reapered and Dudley got stuck. Harry did all of that but he did not even know. I did not like that there was not as much stuff going on in his aunt and uncle’s house then I thought there would be. But I loved the book so much that I rate it 5 Stars!
