summer book report

The book I read over the summer is called Fast Break by Mike Lupica. The story is set in Moreland East and West in the North Carolina hills. It is about a 12 year old kid named Jayson Barnes, who grew up in a poor neighborhood and loves basketball. At first he lived by himself because his mom died and his dad ran away and never came back.

After his mom died, he was stealing PB&J sandwiches because he had no food. Then he got caught stealing basketball shoes, and a social worker brought him to live with a new family in a nicer neighborhood across town. As soon as he got there, he joined the basketball team. His new mom played basketball with him. Having a new life was hard for him. He decided to try hard so his team could start winning. “He would focus on one thing, from now until the end of the basketball season: winning.” Then his team started winning and got to the finals.

I liked the book because it was about sports and I really like sports. It is about basketball and that is my favorite sport. Also, I liked this book because Jayson never gave up; he always tried to get better. People who like reading about basketball would like this book because it is a good book about basketball. I would rate this book four stars.
