Tuck Everlasting

Tuck Everlasting

Today I finished my book called Tuck Everlasting. It was about a tree that made you live forever. There was a family that all drank from the stream that is on the bottom of the tree. This girl Winnie tried to drink it but one of the boys from the family stopped her and brought her back to the house where May and Tuck, which are the parents of the family who drink the water. Winnie is super confused, so May and Tuck explain why she should not drink the water. She got brought back to her home after May shot a policeman who was trying to hurt the family and take Winnie back. So May went to prison and the good thing is that Winnie and the family helped her to escape. Everyone lived immortally and happily ever after! I would rate this book 7 out of 10 stars.

Black Beauty

Black Beauty

I read a book called Black Beauty. The book was interesting because it was written from the perspective of a horse. At first I didn’t get it, and then I understood. Black Beauty has been through a lot of owners; to be exact, five. All of them were different. One of them was drunk and almost killed Black Beauty. Another one had never ridden a horse before, but needed to stay fit. Another one was really nice and fed him well, but a boy was stealing the food so Black Beauty did not get any food and almost died. Luckily, somebody caught him in the act. Black Beauty lived through many ups and downs. Overall I really enjoyed the book and give it 6 out of 10 stars.

Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the NIght-Time

I read a book called The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. It is a really long name/title. I saw the play before but I like the book a lot better because it shows a lot of detail. It is about a kid named Christopher who is autistic, which makes him very smart but gives him problems with some “normal” things like being touched and being in places with a lot of people. He does not like to be hugged so instead he touches fingertips with the person. The book is written almost like a journal, with an entry for each new day or experience he has. One of the main adventures he goes on is to see his mom. He has to take a train to London and the police stopped him and tried to bring him back. He got away, though, and we get to find out the rest of his adventure. Overall I rate this book 8 out of 10 stars!

Summer Reflection

Oh, summer, I miss you already! Camp, California…I wish I could be back there.

Something that I really liked about summer was California. I liked it because my entire family lives there and I love spending time with them. I also loved it because of my birthday. My birthday was super fun and we did so many fun things. One of them was that we had a really nice breakfast. After that, we went to the Santa Monica pier and I went to the arcade with all my cousins, including my baby cousins who were really really fun. Oh my god, I miss them! One of my cousins, Tyler, was one (he’s now two). Harry and Theo are three and five. After that, we went back to their house and swam and opened presents.

Another thing that I enjoyed was sleepaway camp. When I first met my bunkmates, they seemed really nice and excited to see me. They were playing basketball and I joined in, and they said, “You’re really good!” and I said, “No, you guys are really really good, too.” As the weeks went on, we got to know each other better and had a lot of fun together. Those friends actually matter more to me than the camp itself.

Something that I learned this summer is that when you get older you have a lot more responsibility. Like when I went to sleepaway camp for four weeks I had a lot more responsibility than I had at home. I had to take care of myself all the time. My parents weren’t there to tell me what to eat or not eat; I could have eaten five desserts a day if I wanted to, which some days I did!

I loved camp and I loved my cousins. I’m excited for this school year, but I am already thinking about next summer, and I hope it’s even better!

Summer Reading: Travel Team

I read the book called Travel 41oFPq35njLTeam. It is about a short boy named Danny. He got cut by his basketball team because of his size. So him and his dad start their own team in the same league as his old team. His dad also played on the team Danny got cut from and actually brought them to the national championship game. The team that Danny’s dad starts is not very good, but they try. They were O-8, which means O wins and 8 losses. There were three more games until the playoffs, but to be in the playoffs they need to be in the top eight. They had no chance, so they were playing for fun. The next game they won and his dad drank on the way to the place that they were celebrating in and lost control of his car and had to go to the hospital. He was okay, but I was pretty sad when I read that part. Then they played against his old team…  But I can’t tell you the rest. I would recommended the book to people that like sports. I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars.

Robotics Camp

One week this summer, I went to robotics camp. To build the robots, we used a bunch of different pieces, such as axles, lego blocks, connector pegs and connectors. At the end of the camp there is a robo war. That means that you build a robot that attacks the other robot. So I built a good robot with my friend from last year, and at the end we won! My friend left early, so the war was up to me. One robot I flipped and then I pushed it out of the arena. I did really well. It was awesome.unnamed

Sleepaway Camp

I went to sleepaway camp for 4 weeks at Camp Caribou in Maine. It was really fun. I met a lot of new friends that were awesome. Our bunk was really nice and big. We had three counselors and 9 campers including me. Our bunk was supposed to fit three counselors and fifteen campers, so we had a lot of extra room. We used the extra space to play cards, put our clothes, and just hang out. I learned a new sport, tennis. The people at tennis were super nice to me and I went there almost every day. I am going to start playing tennis when school starts. I also tried kneeboarding which was super fun. Kneeboarding is when you get pulled behind a boat while kneeling on a board. The boat pulls you around really fast, and you try to ride the wake. That was my camp experience.

Summer Reading: Peak

There are two main characters in the book: Peak and Son Jo. Peak is thirteen. One day he got caught climbing a skyscraper in NYC. He eventually went to prison. So his dad that he barely gets to see got him out of prison and told him we are going to climb Mount Everest. He was really scared. So they got there and right away his dad had to do other stuff. So Peak had his ropeak4om and met a kid named Son Jo. He was going to climb Mount Everest with him. If Peak can climb Mount Everest before his fourteenth birthday, then he would be the youngest person to ever climb Mount Everest. So they get to the mountain and they meet other people that are going to help them. They got to base camp which is 15 thousand feet in the air. There are six camps and then you have to try for the summit. They made it to camp one which was hard but not too hard. Then it got harder and harder through each camp. When they finally got to camp six with oxygen tanks on and everything on, they went for the summit. You have to read the book to find out what happens!

Summer Reading: When You Reach Me

The main character in the book When you Reach Me is a girl named Miranda. She has a mom and a best friend named Sal. One day Miranda and Sal were walking up the street and saw a kid running towards them. The boy caught up to Sal and punched him. Sal was scared so he ran home, leaving Miranda to catch up with him. The next day and for the next three months, Sal was ignoring Miranda and she was confused as to why and missed her best friend. Meanwhile, Miranda made friends with the kid who punched Sal because he was actually nice. He told her his name was Marcus, and why he punched Sal. Marcus told Miranda that his brother Anthony said if you punch someone and they punch you back you will know “life better.” So he did it but Sal never punched him back.
imgresLater, Sal and Miranda’s parents had a dinner and Sal and Miranda were sitting across from each other and sorted it out with each other. The next day the police came and asked where Marcus was because they saw Marcus chasing Sal into the street. Sal ran away not knowing Marcus was trying to say sorry, but Sal thought he was going to punch him again. So Miranda and Marcus hid in the nurse’s office and locked the door. Many more mysterious events happened, but I don’t want to give any more away. This is a wonderful book and I recommend it highly.

4th of July

It is fourth of July and we are in California with our cousins watching fireworks on an island in the middle of the road. We were super scared that a car would just come on the island and run us over so we were making fun of that and having a great time in California. The fireworks were really cool and we had a great view. It was awesome!!!!
