Science Diorama

In our group we are making a diorama of how buildings under six stories tall get there water supply.

We are going to show the difference in your water supply if you live on the second floor than if you live on the fifth floor.

Charlie’s Coat Of Arms

photo-on-11-1-16-at-9-06-pm

In humanities we made coat of arms that represent our family. I chose the colors red and blue because it represents loyalty and red represents strength, courage, and determination. My family both honest and determined. I put Jewish stars because I’m Jewish. I put hawks in because they represent determination. My motto was the best life choices come from the heart.

News Article

There is a gay man named George Montauge who lives in Brighton, England. He had his ups and downs in life. When he was a kid, his parents were poor and his dad worked as a gardener and his mother did laundry. He knew early on that he was different from everybody else but he tried to hide it because back then it was illegal to be gay. When he was older, he got married because everybody else was doing it and he didn’t want to be the odd one out. He tried to make his wife happy but even she knew that he liked men. They had a long marriage and had 3 kids. He was always afraid of being arrested by the police because he was gay and then one day he was arrested. Now years later, he wants an apology because he never did anything wrong and he has been happily married to a man for the past 21 years.

This is important to me because I feel that all people should have the right to love who they desire and should never  be afraid of showing who they are.

Charlie’s Ashokan Paragraph

At Ashokan I experienced many different sources of nature like the Gorge hike, the birds of prey event, and canoeing.

At Ashokan we went on a hike called the Gorge hike through the woods and experienced many types of nature along the way. We went on the blue trail and an Ashokan staff member came with us. On the Gorge hike we learned about different types of fungus, moss, and turned over rocks to see if there were any animals under them. We also learned about invasive species like Japanese Stiltgrass. An invasive species is a life form that was brought by people from other countries and takes over the land. On this hike I saw many different types of nature. I also experienced nature when I went canoeing.

Zika problem In Miami News Article

Miami Beach is having a problem with the Zika virus. Citizens who live in the area are frustrated about the chemical Naled that the city is using to try to prevent the virus from spreading. They are concerned for many reasons including that it might be bad for people’s health and is killing bees and fish and birds. Some counties in the area are protesting the usage of Naled because they don’t think the problem is that bad. On the other hand, some people think that Zika is a very big deal and needs to be handled in the most effective way.

I understand both sides of the story but I agree more with the city’s policy of using the strongest chemicals to fight this horrible virus from spreading. I understand that there is a downside to using Nalad because they haven’t figured out just how bad it could be for humans and the environment. I do think they should explore new ways that may be safer for the citizens of Miami and the environment, but for now they must do as much as they can.

Summer Reading

Summer Reflection

I had a great summer! My three favorite things that I did this summer was a trip to Italy, going to sleep away camp, and a road trip to Niagara Falls. The first thing I did was my trip to Italy in June the day after school ended. It was the first time I’d ever been to Europe in my life. It was a eight hour flight from JFK. Since there’s a time difference between Italy and New York, it was lunch time when we arrived. Our first visit was to Pisa to see the leaning tower and to eat lunch. Then we drove to our hotel in Florence. During the flight, I couldn’t sleep so as soon as I got in the car I passed out. Some of the other things I did in Italy were going to the Uffizi art museum to see Botticelli’s paintings. They were beautiful! I also got see the David by Michelangelo. Another thing I did was a day trip to Siena where I saw a stunning church called the Duomo. It was an amazing trip because I got to spend time with my family, learn about the history of Italy, and go to fantastic places.

The next thing I did this summer was go to sleep away camp for seven weeks. I go to a camp in Warrensburg, New York called Echo Lake. It was my third summer and my sister’s first summer at camp. There are so many fun things I did at camp like Great Escape and the Claddle (which is an over night climbing and canoeing trip). Great Escape in an amusement park about 20 minutes away from camp. When we got there, we were split up into groups depending on what types of rides you wanted to do. I was in the group who went on the scariest rides at the park. Our group went on five rides including The Comet, The Steamin Demon, The Ring of Fire, The Sasquatch, and the virtual reality Steamin Demon. Another fun experience I had at camp was the Claddle. It was my first time ever going camping in the woods. We had to set up tents and bring sleeping bags and a pillow for the trip. During the trip, I learned that camping isn’t just sleeping in tents but you also get to cook food over a fire and climb up a very tall rock. I had a great summer at camp because I made stronger bonds with my friends, supported my sister in her first year at camp, and went to really cool places.

The last thing I did this summer was a road trip to Canada. I had never been on an eight hour road trip before. On the trip, we went to the Baseball Hall of Fame, Niagara Falls, and the Corning Glass Museum. At the Baseball Hall of Fame we did a scavenger hunt and searched the different rooms for certain artifacts. Then we drove another four hours to get to Canada. The next mourning we took a boat ride around Niagara Falls and got soaking wet! On our way back to New York, we went to the Corning Glass museum in Corning, New York. At the museum, we saw spectacular works of art that were made entirely of glass. We also got to see a glass blowing demonstration as well as a glass breaking demonstration. Overall I’ve had a great summer and I’m sad it’s almost over.
