Collaboration Blog Post

During the past 2 weeks I have collaborated better with my peers because I have been listening to their ideas and we have been dividing the work up evenly. A goal I have is to make sure I’m doing my part in the project, but at the same time my partner is doing the same amount of work. Sometimes I struggle with dividing the work equally so that is why it is a goal for me.

7th Grade learning Habits

I chose collaboration as my learning habit because I feel that having the skill to work with someone and be 100% focused while doing. This is the learning habit I think I can definitely improve on the most for two reason. The first is because sometimes I disagree with my partner and we argue about what we are going to do for that project. This can stress me out and sometimes my partner and I don’t really have plan on what we are doing because we were fighting. The other reason is because sometimes I like to socialize with my friends when i’m working and partnerships and I get more homework because I’m not focused enough during class.

Charlie´s Eye drawing

In Art class this year we have been making a drawing of our eye. We have to use value and different shades of a color. We use 6 different pencils; 2H, HB, B, 2B, 4B and 6B. 2H is the lightest shade of black while 6B is the darkest shade. The first step of our drawing is to draw the general shape of our eye. Next we draw the actual eye and the pupil of our eye. Next we darken up our eye with darker pencils. Some parts of my eye are really dark so I have to use a darker pencil, but some parts of my eye are not as dark so I use s lighter pencil. The next thing we do is blend all of the shades of black together so their is a less of sudden difference and it is not as easy to see your original lines. The final step to the eye drawing is to add eyelashes. I am very proud of my eye drawing because I put a lot of time and effort into this project. Something I would change about my drawing is to change the general shape and the way it is positioned. Overall I think I learned a lot from this project and it was really fun.

Shabanu: Marrying Rahim-sahib

My name is Shabanu and I am 12 years old. I live in Pakistan with Dadi, Mama, Phulan, Auntie, Sher Dil, and our caravan of camels. I have been waiting for a couple of years now to marry Murad. But then everything went wrong. The landlord whose name is Nazir Mohammad killed Hamir who was going to be Phulan’s husband. How Phulan gets to marry Murad who was supposed to be my husband and now I have to marry Nazir’s brother. He is 55 years old and already has three wives. On page 191 I say “He’s old enough to be my grandfather”. Of course I don’t want to marry him and he’s married to three other women, why does he want to marry me? It’s gross this person could be my grandfather and now I have to live with him and his other wives for the rest of my life! All I want is to be free like Sharma!

This is a drawing of Shabanu. She’s is marrying Nazir Mohammad’s brother Rahim-sahib. She lives in Pakistan. Her goal is to one day be free like Sharma her moms cousin. Her family members are Mama, Dadi, Phulan (her sister), Auntie, Sher Dil (the dog), and her families caravan of camels.

Shabanu: Defying Society

I’m Shabanu and I ‘m 12 years old. I live with Dadi, Mama, my sister Phulan , Auntie, Sher Dil, our dog, and our caravan of camels. We live in Pakistan and we are practicing Muslims. In our faith men have much more power over the family than women. If Dadi says something we should do like we need to move like on page 4 when Dadi says “What’s left in the toba is not fit for the camels, let alone for us. We must pack tomorrow”. Or Shabanu we need to get water from the toba, there is no debating it. Sometimes I try to argue with him but it never works, most of the time he yells at me and sometimes when gets really mad he even threatens to beat me. I have a very mixed relationship with Dadi. Sometimes I love him like when we go to the Sibi fair. Other times I can get very mad at Dadi like the time he sold Guluband our most beautiful camel. I will never be free, now I’m forced to listen to Dadi and next year I will have to marry and he will give me orders. It’s like I work for them. My sister thinks nothing of it. She thinks that I should’t get upset about listening to what Dadi says even if I disagree with it. I want to be free one day like Sharma who is strong and independent. She is like a role model to me. Something that separates me from my sister is that I help Dadi get water from the toba, and go to the Sibi fair where there are only men, while Phulan stays at home and helps Mama cook and clean.

This picture represents how girls can do more than just cook and clean. Shabanu is a very good example of tghis.

Arms and Armor Guild

We were studying Medieval ages and I was in the arms and armor guild. I learned about weapons like the battle axes, the bow and arrow, the lance, and swords. A fun fact about battle axes is that the blade was made out of metal, usually iron and steel. A fun fact about bows are that the difference between a crossbow and a longbow is that a cross can only shoot 2 arrows a minute while a longbow can shoot 10-12 arrows a minute. A fun fact about the lance is that depending on what color your coat of arms was that was the color you painted your lance. Finally a fun fact about the medieval long sword was that it weighed 5-8 pounds.

Respiratory System Blog Post

In science Matias, Charlie and I are studying the respiratory system, and in class we are supposed to make a blog post so here it is.

Above is a cool picture of the respiratory system.

The overall function of the respiratory system is to breathe in O2 and get CO2 out of our body. The veins carry the oxygenated blood to the heart while the arteries carry the CO2 to the lungs.

Here are some question:

  1. How much oxygen does the average person’s body take in a day and how much CO2 does the average person’s body release a day?
  2. What is the minimum amount of O2 that the average body can take in to survive?

here are some fun facts about the respiratory system:

  • The total length of the airways running through the two lungs is 1,500 miles or 2,400 kilometers.
  • Veins have epithelial cells for protection and so it doesn’t lose any blood as it is transporting it to the heart.
  • The largest arterial trunk is the aorta.

NASA Space Museum

Over break I went to Houston and the NASA Space Museum. We went on a tour of the campus of the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. While there we saw a work space where they create and test various space equipment and sent it to NASA. This is a picture of Orion which is a space pod that will send astronauts food and water while they’re in space on explorations. We also saw used space shuttles. We got to go inside one of the shuttles and see how astronauts live in space. They  have to strap themselves to a wall if they want to go to sleep because there is no gravity in space. In the museum there was also a plane simulator and space ship simulator. In the plane simulator you try to fire a targets to get points and the other person controls the ship. If you turn the ship a certain way the ship change directions and sometimes the capsule would flip upside down. In the space ship simulator you ride around the galaxy in a “space ship” and at one point you go at lighting speed. Overall I had a great time at the Museum and I learned a lot about air and space.

Art Weekly Drawing Blog Post 2

This is one of my favorite Weekly Drawings because I think I did a very good job featuring the word fire. It also has a lot of color and the fire looks really cool in my opinion.
