Summer Reflection

I had a great summer! My three favorite things that I did this summer was a trip to Italy, going to sleep away camp, and a road trip to Niagara Falls. The first thing I did was my trip to Italy in June the day after school ended. It was the first time I’d ever been to Europe in my life. It was a eight hour flight from JFK. Since there’s a time difference between Italy and New York, it was lunch time when we arrived. Our first visit was to Pisa to see the leaning tower and to eat lunch. Then we drove to our hotel in Florence. During the flight, I couldn’t sleep so as soon as I got in the car I passed out. Some of the other things I did in Italy were going to the Uffizi art museum to see Botticelli’s paintings. They were beautiful! I also got see the David by Michelangelo. Another thing I did was a day trip to Siena where I saw a stunning church called the Duomo. It was an amazing trip because I got to spend time with my family, learn about the history of Italy, and go to fantastic places.

The next thing I did this summer was go to sleep away camp for seven weeks. I go to a camp in Warrensburg, New York called Echo Lake. It was my third summer and my sister’s first summer at camp. There are so many fun things I did at camp like Great Escape and the Claddle (which is an over night climbing and canoeing trip). Great Escape in an amusement park about 20 minutes away from camp. When we got there, we were split up into groups depending on what types of rides you wanted to do. I was in the group who went on the scariest rides at the park. Our group went on five rides including The Comet, The Steamin Demon, The Ring of Fire, The Sasquatch, and the virtual reality Steamin Demon. Another fun experience I had at camp was the Claddle. It was my first time ever going camping in the woods. We had to set up tents and bring sleeping bags and a pillow for the trip. During the trip, I learned that camping isn’t just sleeping in tents but you also get to cook food over a fire and climb up a very tall rock. I had a great summer at camp because I made stronger bonds with my friends, supported my sister in her first year at camp, and went to really cool places.

The last thing I did this summer was a road trip to Canada. I had never been on an eight hour road trip before. On the trip, we went to the Baseball Hall of Fame, Niagara Falls, and the Corning Glass Museum. At the Baseball Hall of Fame we did a scavenger hunt and searched the different rooms for certain artifacts. Then we drove another four hours to get to Canada. The next mourning we took a boat ride around Niagara Falls and got soaking wet! On our way back to New York, we went to the Corning Glass museum in Corning, New York. At the museum, we saw spectacular works of art that were made entirely of glass. We also got to see a glass blowing demonstration as well as a glass breaking demonstration. Overall I’ve had a great summer and I’m sad it’s almost over.

  1. Charlie, it sounds like you had a very fun summer filled with adventure and learning. I also went to Florence for the first time this summer. Wasn’t the statue of David so impressive in real life?
