Africans in New York: Creative Narrative Assignment

For this assignment, we were given a one page biography on a African in New York. We then had to take facts from it and incorporate them in a realistic fictional story. The person a got was John Fortune, a free black man. It was very interesting to  write from this perspective and read the biography. I learned a lot from getting a different view. I learned that life was hard even for a free black man and that it was very hard to free an enslaved person. Along with that, there was so much more that was interesting and intriguing. I learned a lot about myself doing this assignment. I know that I am very creative and I understand key concepts of Colonial America. I also know that I switch tenses a lot and my time period switches need clarification. I learned that I have a good understanding of Colonial America from multiple perspectives. I am overall happy with my piece but am planning on re-submitting it.
