Vocal Majors

My first impression of Vocal Majors was that it was fun. Three things that I have learned about my voice/ reading music are: I am definitely a soprano, I can sing some alto parts, and I can do whistle tones. A question I have is: do the Vocal Majors get to pick a lot of the songs?

Summer Reading

Here are the books I’ve read.

Annotations for Murder on the Orient Express:

Page 137: This is why you don’t grow a giant mustache. It might slow you down if you get caught on something, and that’s all the time a criminal may need. It was already getting in the way of Poirot’s soup.

P. 142: Coquetry- flirtatious behavior/manner. That really does mostly sum up that character (who has yet to be named). She’s described to be very fashionable with a striking face.

P. 144: Poirot said, “I do not like your face,” and left. That comment won’t go over well. How will Ratchett react? It probably won’t be good. He seems like a nasty customer. Poirot noted that he looked kind of two-faced. There was something ‘malicious’ in his eyes.

P. 159: The pipe cleaner was probably dropped on purpose to make Poirot suspect a man, but there was a woman’s handkerchief too.

P. 159: I think it may have been the Hungarian couple. It appears to have been multiple people who killed Ratchett, and they seemed kind of shady. There were too many different wounds on the dead man to be caused by one person.

P. 160: There were multiple wounds, so it may have been both people trying to make it look like the other did it by dropping the handkerchief and the pipe cleaner, or they were both careless. But it would be too much of a coincidence, and the Hungarians looked a bit too smart and careful to be so sloppy.

P. 164: The Hungarian woman must be Linda Arden’s youngest daughter, and little Daisy Armstrong’s aunt! The dead man killed Daisy, so revenge could be the motive! She didn’t seem like someone to just let that sort of thing go. She was described as delicate, but I got the sense that she was strong.

P. 170: Apparently a woman in a scarlet silk kimono had something to do with the murder, Several witnesses – including Poirot – saw her on the night of the crime near the dead man’s compartment.

P. 173: Why did they call cigarettes ‘gaspers’?

P. 180: Ratchett was dead by then, so how could he answer in French?

P. 184: I’m not surprised that the Russian princess knew of Poirot, but why’d she say “this is destiny”?

P. 186: It’s weird that so many people took similar medications on the night of the crime. Is this an alibi, or coincidence?

P. 188: Ascertained- Made sure of.

P. 200: Again, the woman in red comes up. It could be either the Hungarian countess, or someone who left the train.

P. 204: Now a small dark guy with an odd voice comes up in the plot. He was probably the second murderer, as Poirot suspects that there were two.

P. 208: Aha! The weapon was planted in a passenger’s luggage! That’s a classic trick.

P. 220. The scarlet kimono was found on top of Poirot’s suitcase. The murderers must be on the train, and now they know for certain that a detective’s onto them.

P. 233. I was right about the Hungarian countess’s identity, but I’m still not sure if she committed the crime. It’s very likely.

P. 253: All the passengers revealed some connection to the Armstrong family! Apparently they ALL stabbed Ratchett. So this case was about justice and revenge. What an odd ending. It was certainly well-written, though.

My favorite art project!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here’s a picture of my favorite art project, the Geometric Pattern!

Mabel S Geometric Patter

I liked this project because I learned a new skill, how to use xacto-knifes! What I liked that I did was that I made a pattern that is colorful and creative!

Poetry

Here are 5 different poems:

I’m Sorry (not)

I am very sorry for swiping your hat

I’m sorry for breaking your baseball bat,

It was fun though,

But now that you know,

Would you give me back my cat?

Personifying Wind Limerick

Wind, wind, blowing down some trees,

Or maybe just a gentle breeze,

You’re sometimes in a hurry,

Maybe bringing a snow flurry,

But you’ll never start to wheeze

Cinquain

I’m

So bored

And there’s nothing

That I want to

Do.

Never Judge A Costume Based On What Style Of Dance You Are Taking

When I saw it I was confused

I thought I’d been taking hip-hop

I’m still a bit bemused

Because my costume is over the top.

I thought I’d be looking cool,

Instead I look like a fool,

Now in my plaid

I’m rather sad.

It wasn’t what I expected, you know,

‘Cuz I look like a Scottish Gangster, Yo!

MAP ART!!

Here’s a picture!

Mabel Map Project 3

This is my finished map art project. We are supposed to make artist statements for our projects, so here’s mine:

I would like to name this work of art Inside the Empire State Building. I created it by making a foam board building and glueing a cut up map to it. I made a bed and carpet with fabric and foam board, and I made books out of paper. Something I learned while creating it is that foam board is kind of hard to cut. My favorite part is the bed and the carpet, because they were hard to make, but I felt quite satisfied with them when I finished. If I could change something, I would paint the walls because it would look more like my room. When making this, I was surprised to learn that foam board is so hard to manage. Something else I’d like to add is that the inside of the Empire State Building is supposed to be my room, just so you know.

My character blog post #2

“She can’t stand for me to be comfortable” Page 87

Another day has passed, and Auntie is still being mean. It’s getting ridiculous! Auntie has always been nasty, but it’s gotten worse. Ever since Phulan got engaged, she’s been just rotten. Well, no more. Maybe I could run away… no. I’ll just have to let her know what I think. Except then she would be very angry, so maybe that’s not a good idea. This is a very confusing matter. Well, Mama is calling me to make chapatis for dinner, I’d better go.

Mabel’s Shabanu Post #1

“God, my life was perfect, and you struck him down!” Page 170.

Dear Diary,

I never knew how cruel life could be. I was so happy. So very happy. I had my family, my camels, my dowry, and I was engaged to a man with land and money who would be a good husband. Then, not to long before I was to be married, it all came crashing down. My future husband was… I’m sorry. I have trouble talking about it. It was terrible. I can recall it like it was only yesterday. Hamir was slain, but Shabanu, Mama and I escaped, and we have found a place to stay.

My Poetry!

Here are some haikus I wrote!

This is why you should study

Geography quiz,

I am not ready and where’s

Constantinople?

Vizzini’s Haiku

I’m writing poems,

And making any sense is

Inconceivable!

When I was writing these poems, I at first didn’t really like it. But now that I’ve done it more, I can compose haikus on the spot and not think twice about it! Also, I actually enjoy it now. I even started to write haikus about other people. However, I have this weird habit of making all my poems kind of dark. I don’t know why.  So, I made one about myself, and here it is.

I write creepy stuff,

Dave thinks I’m a Sith poet,

What did you expect?

I now know that I have to be really careful when I’m writing if I want it to be a certain way. Here’s a tip. If you want dark poetry, come to me, or just write a poem about your worst fear coming to wreck you. Poetry is actually really fun if you like writing.

Structure Fits Function

Heart

Of course, the heart is an important organ, but it’s a lot more complicated than “it pumps blood”. It has multiple systems inside it to help it’s purpose. The blood gets pumped into the left atria from the veins

Structure Function
Right+left Ventricle The place in the heart that is in charge of pumping oxygen-drained blood to the lungs. The right+ left  ventricles are two of the four sections in the heart. The Atria are the other two.
The Pericardium A fibrous covering that holds the heart in place. It has a fluid that “lubricates” the heart in the pericardial space to prevent friction. It has two layers, one of which is visceral layer, which covers the heart. The other forms a sac which has a fluid in the pericardial cavity.
Right+Left Atrium The atria are chambers that receive blood from the veins.

The ventricles are chambers that pump blood out of the heart.

The Myocardium The myocardium of is a muscle heart wall and constantly needs oxygen because it is hard working so there is an extensive network of veins to supply oxygen and nutrients so it can function properly. It’s other purpose it to dispose of waste.
Valves Pumps need valves to keep the liquid going in one direction, and the heart isn’t an exception. The heart has two kinds of valves that keep the blood going in the right direction. The valves between the atria and ventricles are atrioventricular valves (also called cuspid valves), while the ones at the bases of the large vessels leaving the ventricles are semilunar valves.

The right atrioventricular valve is the tricuspid valve. The left atrioventricular valve is the bicuspid, or mitral, valve. The valve in between the right ventricle and pulmonary trunk is the pulmonary semilunar valve. The valve between the left ventricle and the aorta is the aortic semilunar valve.

When the ventricles contract, atrioventricular valves close up to stop blood from flowing back into the atria. When the ventricles relax, semilunar valves close to stop blood from going back into the ventricles.
