Activity: Community Agreements

If you have not already co-created Morning Meeting community agreements, it might be a good use of time.

  1. Review: What is the purpose of Morning Meeting?

  • Welcoming each other

  • Announcements and organization

  • Activities: current events, weekend shares, community building, celebrating our identities, working through issues

  1. Ask: To create our MM Community, what agreements should we make together?

Some examples:

  • Be present

  • Say “Good Morning”

  • Respect the common space

  • Try not to judge yourself or others

  • Speak from the “I” perspective

  • Make space for others to share

  • W.A.I.T (Why are I sharing? Why aren’t I sharing?)

  • Ask for what you need (self advocate)

Building Bonds w/ Venn Diagrams

Sometimes it’s nice to use a good ole’ Venn Diagram to help classmates get to know each other better. Create pairs among students who aren’t already close friends to record differences and similarities. Possible ideas: places of birth, siblings, pets, hobbies, talents, fears, dreams, languages, ethnicities, religions, races, music tastes, places visited, goals, favorite colors/TV shows, books, etc. Volunteers can share examples to the whole group.
