6th Grade Social Studies

In social studies, we are learning about the middle ages. At the moment we are learning about castles and how they are built and who lived in them. We watched a video and made a “I wonder, I notice, I infer” chart. I think that I am doing well. I have a hard time paying attention sometimes because I feel like I know some of what they are teaching me. I will try to start challenge myself more.

Math Pop Quiz

The Take-Home Math Test

1446820140661.1This is a page from the take-home test. I did not do as well as I was hoping to, but I think that I did well. This is a page that I got all right. I really like this kind of math and I think that I am good at it. I studied for it and I did as well as I thought I would on this part.

Beowulf Annotating

In humanities, we have been annotating Beowulf. That means that we underline important things, circle and define vocabulary words and write a chapter summery. Annotating is important because it helps you understand the text. I am proud of my circling and defining skills because I always remember to define, and not just circle. I want to improve of underlining important parts because sometimes I miss important things.

Mandarin

In Mandarin this quarter we have been learning about nationalities. This is a set that Xin made for us that has all the countries on it.

This is the set that I have been making throughout all the classes.

This is a video about nationalities.

This is a video that shows the sentences.

Thank you for reading about my Mandarin class!

This is my before picture. It isn’t in order and there is stuff crossed out.1445956016051.1 (2)This is my after picture. All of the work is in order and the answers are circled. It has a clear title and date.

The reason why it has to be neat is so you can read it and so it is clear.

6th Grade Ashokan Trip

This year we went to Ashokan again. One interesting thing we did was blacksmithing. I made a heart trivet. We got to pump the fire and hammer metal. Some people made fire pokers. Even Jen made something?

I learned that canoeing is harder than I thought. You have to balance out the center of gravity and the person in the back has more control. Unfortunately, I was in the back and Dora was in the front. She was not very good at it. We kept almost tipping over but we didn’t die. It was really pretty though.

It was different than last year because we had different activities and they were more fun.

Hrothgar Project

One project we have had in humanities so far is a Beowulf character depiction project. We each got characters and drew them, found quotes about them, and made a list of internal and external traits. I had Hrothgar, the king of the Danes. I am proud of this because the project is neat and readable. It looks really organized. I achieved my goal. My goal was to work hard on it and have it be easy to read and have it stand out. Someone looking at it could tell that I worked hard on it.IMG_0243
