This poem is called in the sky. I wrote this because I am not tall and I can not go to the sky.  This is just a regular type of poem.  In this poem there are elements of imagery, repetition, and rhyme.

To say I am  in the sky

Might be a lie

For me to try

To get to the sky

Is truly a lie

Stuck down here I try

To arrive

Favorite Art Piece

Screenshot 2016-06-08 at 9.22.35 AMThe reason why this piece is my favorite is because I put a lot hard work into it. It was very fun and interesting to make this work of art. I made this to look like a medieval  s.

Somethings I learned while creating is you have to think outside the box to make your piece very creative. My favorite part is the map on the foam board. If I could change something about it would be to make my letters more clear. While making I was surprised how hard it was to draw letters on foam board. Something else I want to share about this piece is I had a lot of fun making it.

Then I put the letters on the foam board. I learned while creating this piece is you have to take your time on important things. My favorite part is the map on the foam board. If I could change something it would be to make the letters more neat. While making I was surprised that cutting foam board could be very hard. Something I want to share is this was a very fun project.

System Sheet

Screenshot 2016-05-24 at 10.43.14 AMOne of the biggest takeaways I have from this unit is I never knew how other systems can connect to each other. I found that very interesting. My group worked on the digestive system. It was very fun teaching and learning about it. It was also fun learning about other systems

Shabanu News Cast

Fugitive Landlord And His Men Kill Young Man Named Hamir

Breaking News! Recently in Yazman, a young man named Hamir was killed by his landlord, Nazir Mohammad. We have interviewed Hamir’s mother and younger brother and the family that he was betrothed to.

The story is that Nazir Mohammad and his men saw Phulan and Shabanu and tried to take them. They were said to throw water pots at them to fend them off. Onlookers reported that this made Nazir Mohammad very angry. Shabanu and Phulan then ran for their lives, and talked to their mother.

Quickly, the family left in anxiety. Only Dalil Abassi stayed back. When they told the story to Hamir, he quickly became angry that Nazir Mohammad had dared to insult the girl he was betrothed to. He took to violence. Then Nazir and his men came in a jeep. Nazir was drunk, when he saw Hamir he told his men to shoot him. When Hamir was down a few seconds later, they shot him down once more. Murad and Abassi carried his body back to the hut. There they met Bibi Lal who was crying. She was inside the hut while it happened and she said she heard the gun shots. The men splashed water on Hamir but it would not work. They took off their turbans and wiped the blood of him. Behind them they heard Nazir’s jeep driving away. All of them knew they could not do anything. They knew Hamir was dead.
Dalil Abbasi and Murad carried the body back to Hamir’s hut. His mother, Bibi-Lal was devastated. What a terrible turn of events, here in Yazman. Rangers are keeping an eye out for Nazir Mohammad and his posse.

Subway Map Project

Screenshot 2016-05-11 at 9.47.42 AMMy Idea of this project is to cut out my name in subway letters out of foam board. Then I will put them on a different piece of foam board. On the different piece of foam board I will put a cut up map of places that are important to me. My next step is to color the subway letters and then put the map on the foam board. After that I will attach the letters to the map.

Shabanu Diary/ How to survive and perpare for a sand storm

Hamir’s Death.

Dear Diary,

Today I awake to the sound of rain outside and the voices of Mama, Dadi, the rangers, and Murad. I hope we can return home today after the wedding, oh wait there is no wedding. I remember getting the news last night of Hamir’s death. I feel so bad for Phulan I know she loved that man. Questions race through my head of what happened. I go up to Mama, she has bags under her eyes. I know the adults did not have very good sleep last night, they where up late on the radio contacting the other rangers. I ask Mama of how the death of Hamir happened but she does not know. I know not to ask more questions because I know that Mama is sad and tired, but my curiosity flows anyways. “What will happen Mama?” I ask. “We will see Shabanu we will see” she replies. I climb back into my tent and find Phulan still sleeping. She was also up late crying. Her eyes are sore and bruised from crying. I come back to Mama making chapatis, milk, and tea over the fire. The men and Auntie join us for a quick meal. Later Phulan joins us she drinks a cup of tea and eats some bread. This is the first thing Phulan has eaten or drinked in two days. Phulan and mama talk about how she feels. “I feel empty” she says. We gather up our things and start heading to Derawar. It will be a ten hour journey back. I hope Sakina tells me what happened to Hamir. That is all I can think about on the way there. That is it for now diary talk to you later.

It seems like a sand storm is coming near us. We must prepare for the sand storm. Here come with me and I will show you how to prepare and survive.

The first thing you should do is make a survival kit. It is very important to have a lot of water because the sand storms are long and you will not be able to get any. Water here is very limited so you must save a lot. You can get water from the toba.  Also make sure you have something to cover your face because sand can get in your eyes. Most importantly you must have food, such as chapatis and Biryani.

Always make sure to stay inside. If you do not have a hut or a tent make one quick out of sticks. To make sure your animals are safe gather them together and keep them safe. Make sure everyone around you is inside. Now that you know what to do start preparing for the storm.

My Haiku

Haiku: Running into water

          I feel the splash

          On my body.

A haiku is a 3 line poem. The first line consists of 5 syllables, the second line of 7 syllables and the third line of 5 syllables. Haiku can be about anything, but is often about nature. My haiku was about going into water and feeling the water. This was my first time writing a haiku and it was not  that challenging because it is a simple step by step process as shone above. I feel that writing haiku’s are fun and interesting because you can say what ever you want to say. I will continue to write more haiku s over the year because it is fast, easy, and fun.  Here is an image of haiku representing nature.

Structure fits function

Screen Shot 2016-04-17 at 9.53.32 AMDid you ever wonder what happens inside the digestive system or where your food goes after you swallow it. Part of the process of the food digesting is the small intestine. By the time the food gets to the small intestine it is broken down into almost a liquid. But what is the small intestine? That’s what I’m going to tell you today!

The small intestine is part of the  gastrointestinal tract. The small intestine in large because it needs to take your food and   your body needs to break down food into nutrients and absorb the nutrients. This is the part of digesting the food happens. The reason for the small intestine being so squished together is the small intestine is 15 to 30 feet long. The large intestine is on the outer part and it coils the small intestine. The small intestine helps absorb food but it does not store.  All of that helps the small intestine break down food easier.

Here is step by step of the system

  • The Small Intestine has a rough surface (villi) so the food will be absorbed by it into the body. It isn’t stored, but it is absorbed.
  • It is 15-30 ft long, to make sure the maximum the amount of nutrients absorbed from the food.
  • Because it is so long, the body coils it up on itself.
  • So it doesn’t uncoil, the Small Intestine is surrounded by the Large Intestine.
  • It also has a thick muscle layer surrounding it to increase the surface area.

All of that helps the Small Intestine do it’s function!
