Broadway Buzz

Broadway News – Hey everyone! The broadway community has had lots of news over our spring break. For starters, Waitress has two new actors in their show! Shoshana Bean is now playing the lead, Jenna and Jeremy Jordan began his role as Dr. Pomatter April 8th. Their performances will continue through May 12th. Ben Platt, previously star of Dear Evan Hansen has released a new album called: Sing to Me Instead. The album is incredible and I highly recommend giving it a listen. Our final piece of news is that an announcement has been made that The Prom will be made into a Netflix film! April 9th, at the Longacre Theater, Emmy winning Ryan Murphy announced he will be adapting the Broadway smash-hit into a Netflix movie! The film is rumored to be released around September, 2020.

Musical of the Week – This week’s “musical of the week” is The Prom, directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw. The show is based off of the book written by Chad Beguelin and Bob Martin. The music is by Matthew Sklar and the lyrics are written by Chad Beguelin as well. The show stars Beth Leavel as Dee Dee Allen and Brooks Ashmanskas as Barry Glickman. It also stars Caitlin Kinnunen as Emma, Christopher Sieber as Trent Oliver and Isabelle McCalla, as well as a talented ensemble. It’s about four older Broadway stars who hear of a troubled prom in a small Indiana town. Press gets involved which draws the Broadway stars to bring the subject to light. When one girl, Caitlin, tries to bring her girlfriend to the prom, this is what causes the town to conflict with the prom. The show is full of comedy, amazing numbers and music. One of our Newspaper heads, Kate Deming, saw it and gave it an amazing review.
