The Broadway community has upcoming shows, closing shows and an upcoming live production aired this weekend! January 27th, Rent Live! aired. Starring Jordan Fisher, Vanessa Hudgens, Kiersey Clemons, Valentina, Brandon Victor Dixon, Tinashe and Mario.A rehearsal the day before the show, Brennin Hunt broke his foot! This made the show not really live and they ended up using pre-recorded clips. The only truly live performance was the final performance. Also, over our recent long weekend, School of Rock had its final performance. More detail about the show will be included in the “Musical of the Week”.
Musical of the Week –
This week’s musical is School of Rock. Beginning as a movie starring Jack Black, the musical came onto the stage starring Alex Brightman. The show is about Dewey Finn, a broke, lost, rock star. He leaves his band and finds himself clueless in what to do. After answering a phone call for his friend, he takes a roll as a substitute teacher offered to his friend and not him. He makes a band with a class of students who have strict roles they have to follow. The “School of Rock” band sneaks performances and rehearsals. “Battle of the Bands” comes up, the biggest competition for Dewy. Will he and the “School of Rock” be able to compete? School of Rock, composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Glenn Slater and directed by Laurence Conner.
