InSight Lands on Mars!
As many of you know, NASA has launched their next spacecraft onto Mars, and it has many tools never used before! If you wondered if Insight stands for something, it does! Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport. Some new additions to the spacecraft are; It is the first Mars mission to use a robotic arm, used to place instruments on arms (not musical ones), another new thing is how they are going to find the heat build up in Mars interior. They will do this by digging a burrow 5 meters down – this will take around 3 months to complete! Finally, another fun fact is that the mission was almost canceled because it was supposed to happen in 2016, but in 2015 something was incorrect so they had to restructure the instrument and couldn’t launch!
