Marathon Mark

By Malaika Tapper and Devon Donahue

Congratulations Mark! You did it! You ran over 26 miles through New York in under 4 hours, a huge achievement that we should all acknowledge.

How much time did you spend training?

“My initial plan wasn’t to train at all. I hate running but I liked the idea of running the marathon. I spent so much time telling everybody here that effort really matters so I started running in the summer 4 times a week and in the beginning that was pretty miserable, but eventually I got used to the routine of it.”

What was running like?

“It was really exciting, just to do anything where you surrounded with thousands of other people… I think you really see the city in a way you’ve never seen it before.”

How did you feel when you crossed the finish line?

“When I crossed I felt pretty good, truly the most horrendous experience was the 30 minutes after crossing the finish line. Your body does an amazing job and doing what you have to do, but as soon as its over it shuts down…”

We would also like to congratulate everyone else that ran, including the two marathons winners, Geoffrey Mutai and Priscah Jeptoo for their devotion, and success.
