The earthquake in Haiti was a tragedy.  We all know that there have been many earthquakes in the past.  And there will definitely be more in the future.  But, Haiti started out with almost nothing….And now literally has nothing.  Many people have contributed in school and out of school to help.  People have food drives, bake sales, our school collected different supplies that you need on a daily basis.

I know most of you have probably seen the news stories about Haiti.  And when you see them, yes, they’re extremely sad.  But, imagine that you’re actually there.  That you were there when the earthquake happened.  It wouldn’t just be sad.  You’d be crying, because you’re scared to death.  You might get caught under some rubble.  When you see the news stories or you talk about it with a friend, you don’t think about it like that.  You think of it as just sad.  But, it’s amazing how much more you realize and can feel when you put your imagination in that disaster.  And it’s amazing what an earthquake can do.

An earthquake can destroy homes, memories, you’re life.  We don’t worry about it or normally think about it because, we don’t need to.  If anythings wrong, we call the fire department, the police station….If it’s national we call the army.  We’re totally oblivious to all of these peoples feelings.  So, next time you have a bake sale or food drive, don’t just think, “Oh, well, this is for Haiti so we have to get a lot of money/food.”  Because, it’s so much more than just getting money or food.  The best way we can help, is by understanding what they’re going through and how they feel.  Haiti needs our help, so let’s give it to them.
