A List of Cages: Book Review

By Emily Nally

A List of Cages is a contemporary young adult novel about two boys who were once foster brothers and are reunited in high school after 5 years apart. Adam, a hyper kid with ADHD, was selected to aide the school psychologist his senior year, and is asked to keep an eye on a freshman who keeps skipping his classes. However, once Adam finds out the freshman is Julian, his old foster brother, he begins to wonder what he’s up to. They begin to spend time together and reconnect, but Adam begins to worry about Julian. Why is he acting weird, skipping classes and vanishing throughout the day? Robin Roe tackles heavy topics in her novel, making A List of Cages an extremely gut-wrenching story. Roe gives readers this beautiful story in both Julian and Adam’s perspectives, making it incredibly gripping. Although it’s an emotional punch, A List of Cages is a beautiful novel that discusses the importance of friendship and the pain that comes with relationships. If you’re looking for a story filled with joy, tears, unique characters and adorable friendships, A List of Cages is definitely a book you should pick up!
