Americans United for the Separation of Church and State

We are very excited to announce the launch of AU’s newly expanded Student Contest, now accepting submissions of essays and videos from high school and college students, with first-place prizes of $1,500!

This year’s contest focuses on students’ vision for church-state separation. What would happen if we secured separation of church and state in the United States, and all people were able to live as themselves and believe as they choose? Students are invited to write a short essay or create a short video sharing that vision.

If you are not an eligible student, but you have someone in mind for this contest, please take a moment to share this contest with students you know. This is a great way to bring them into our movement for church-state separation.

2023 Student Essay Contest

Creativity is encouraged! Winning essays and videos will weave together personal experience and research. With separate prize categories for high school and college students, students can win between $500-$1,500. Winners also have the chance to be published in AU’s magazine and online. Visit our website to learn more about the contest, the prizes and how to enter.
