Project by: Spencer Rosenblum (10th Grade)
Project Advisor: Sarvjit Moonga
Student(s)’s Advisor(s): Kara Luce

I took a comprehensive look at rocket and jet systems and fuel, and how they have changed over the last half century. I took this project on specifically because last year I really enjoyed my work in chemistry. I also have a passion for the space program, and modern jet research, so the subject of this honors project is a perfect match for me. Here’s is a summary of my work:

Reflection on the Process:

Overall I really enjoyed working on my honors project. I got amazing insight into how rocket fuel and jet fuel work, and I was able to even make a poster that (I hope) anyone can understand. Some of the things that I researched that didn’t make it into the final cut include other types of rocket and jet fuel, understanding the hemisphere and when “space” starts, rocket trajectories, lift, and even more ideas.

PROJECT PROPOSAL:

Please write a description of the project you are proposing. Why do you want to take this on, and what do you hope to learn?

For my honors project I will be taking a comprehensive look at rocket and jet systems and fuel, and how they have changed over the last half century. I want to take this project on specifically because last year I really enjoyed my work in chemistry. I also have a passion for the space program, and modern jet research, so the subject of my honors project is a perfect match for me.

What is your proposed outcome? How will you be able to demonstrate successful completion of this Project?

At the end of the trimester I will create an easy to understand poster explaining what some of the more common jet and rocket fuels are, how they are chemically composed, and how they are different. I will include diagrams to emphasize ideas around turbines, as well as mostly non scientific language to allow anyone to read it.

When do you plan on meeting?
Once to twice a week during 10th grade lunch periods
