Making my composition was really fun, and interesting. I also learned a lot of new things from it. I started composing it by thinking of a tune in my head. I would then write it out, and play it. Next, I would make each note a step away from the next one. This was making a smooth melodic shape. That means it doesn’t go from a c to a g for most notes, or a b to a f. Those would be leaps. They leap from note to note, meaning there are two or more notes in between. I also wouldn’t make it go from an a to a c, or an e to a g. That would be a skip because there is one note in between them. But an a and a b would be a step apart because there is no note in between them. If a composition is mostly steps, with a few skips and leaps, it has a smooth melodic shape. It would be catchy, and a good piece of music.
