RACE HARD
SUMMER 3021 JULY 12:
(scene) MY ROOM
Bring,Bring!!!!!!!!! My alarm clock rings. “Ahhh,” I yawn. “It’s so early, Oh it’s only Saturday,” I say to myself as I get out of my bed in my bedroom. As I walk to my dresser I notice a big orange flier that got stuck by the wind on my window. It says:
Town hovercycle race next saturday Afternoon
$1000 prize if you win the race.
“Wow,” I say. “That is a lot of money.” I race down to tell my parents the important news but when I tell them the news they say “Absolutely not it is too dangerous for a 12 year old boy.”
“But if I win I will earn $1000 dollars,” I protest as I race to the door to tell my friend Nate about my huge problem. I get on my hovercycle and ride over to Nate’s house.
“Nate,” I yell from the street where my hovercycle is parked. “Come on I have some important news to share with you.”
“Okay,” says Nate.
Nate and I walked down to my basement together.
“Nate, I need your help getting to the hovercycle race without my parents knowing because they are going to be at the race. If they see me I will be in serious trouble so can you help me please?”
“Of course it will be my pleasure. But something you will need is a disguise or something to cover your face so your parents won’t see you. Also you will need to change your name so you can sign up without your parents knowing you are there,” Nate says.
“Thank you so much. Let’s get to work and make a uniform,” I say.
Nate and I work on a costume in my the garage.
A couple hours later we were using my mom’s sewing machine in my garage to sew up a uniform for the race. I was making a helmet with goggles attached to it. Nate was sewing up a patch that had the number 87 on one of my leather jackets. Once we were done we started to paint my hovercycle so my parents won’t notice my hovercycle at the race. “Hey Nate we should just paint certain areas on it instead of painting the whole thing,” I say.
“Okay,” Nate responded. “Later we should go to the park to work on driving the hovercycle and new techniques.”
“Yea the paint has dried on the hovercycle so we can go to the so we can go to the park now,” I say.
We are at my the front lawn about to go to the park.
Just as I was starting up my hovercycle it stopped I noticed that it was out of battery and my iphone 300 just got an email. When I look on my phone it says:
TOWN HOVERCYCLE RACE CHANGED DATE TO TOMORROW
7/13/3021
“AAAAAHHHH,” I yell as I call Nate. “ Nate we have two problems we need to find batteries right away and find and put them all in the hovercycle because it is out of battery and the race date was changed to tomorrow!!”
“Okay,” Nate says from his phone. We put all the batteries in,in no time
“Let’s go and practice at the park now,” I say.
“Yea you can practice your skills there,” Nate suggests.
At the park with Nate.
“THREE…TWO….ONE…GO,” yells Nate as he starts his timer from his phone. Whoosh goes my hovercycle. “That was your best time yet 15.7 seconds you are probably going to do good in the race tomorrow. You just need to let go of the brakes a millisecond before you push your foot on the gas so you can go faster,” says Nate.
“Can we take a break it is so hot outside,” I complain.
“No come on get up let’s try that one more time,” Nate pleads.
“Ok fine let’s try that one more time,” I say as I ride over to the mini course Nate made for me in the grassy part of the grass. “THREE…TWO…ONE…GO,” Nate yells again while starting his timer. I race down the course as fast as I could using Nate’s suggestion. “WOW!!! That was so fast .That was 11.7 seconds you will probably win tomorrow if you use all the strategies I taught you tomorrow,” Nate says excitedly “Hey your name should be the flash rider when you sign up tomorrow.”
“Okay that is a good Idea and. By the way I definitely will use the strategies tommorow you taught me,” I say excited for the race tomorrow
At the huge race course.
Nate and I take the hovercycle up to the starting line. As I put on my goggles I look up at the crowd I see my mom and my dad looking around. I get so nervous. But then…THREE…TWO…ONE…BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Goes the the gunshot. All of the racers take off.
“The Skull rider number 58 is in 1st place, in 2nd place is the Shark rider number 75, and in third place is the flash rider number 87. But they still have 2 more laps to go,” The announcer yells through his microphone in a huge stand.
I feel like I am going so fast I am going to faint. My face feels so hot. I throw off my helmet because it is so hot but I keep my goggles on so the crowd (especially my parents) won’t notice there is a huge gasp in the crowd because they think it is soooooooo dangerous to do that.
“One more lap,” the announcer yells again. I start to worry I won’t get 1st place so I push as hard as I can on the acceleration and I get in front of everyone. But I forgot to refill my batteries in my hovercycle the day before so it was almost out of battery so I let go of the acceleration and the skull rider was right by my side but just then my hovercycle ran out of juice and I was skidding on the ground because my hovercycle just let go of the hovering but I hit the long red ribbon across the finish line and I won!!!!!! “YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS,” I scream as I get off my hovercycle and stand very proudly on my hovercycle to the crowd.
“THE FLASH RIDER HAS WON THE FLASH RIDER HAS WON,” The announcer announces loudly to the crowd.
At the parking lot with mom and dad.
At the end of the race my parents come to congratulate the winner of the race but then they notice it is me. As we walk to the car they have a strange look on their face “I am sorry for not listening to you guy’s but this was the only time I could really show how good I was as riding a hovercycle,” I say.
“Oh it is okay we should have let you in the race because you are twelve and you are being more responsible and good at riding a hovercycle,” my parents say as they put my hovercycle on the roof of the hovering car.
“so you mean I can do this more often,” I ask.
“Well only if you ask us and we say if it is okay because it was not good for you to throw your helmet in the race track but we will also only let you race if you keep your helmet on. Okay,” dad asks
“Okay,” I say as we leave for home from the parking lot on our hovering car. (my hovercycle)
