Taking Care of Camels (Shabanu #1)

Recently, two of my camels, Tipu and Kalu, fought. This is very unusual because usually only the dominant male, Tipu, mates with the females, but when there is a challenger, they fight to the death. I was so scared, but it all turned out okay. It was a close match because kalu is larger and very strong, but Tipu is also very strong and more experienced because he is older. Luckily, we stopped the fight before anyone got very hurt. My advice is to get some kind of stick and make loud noises. You make loud noises near their head so they get distracted and annoyed, but my camels are fierce, and it rarely works on them. You should carry a stick to, if you need to, hit them with. Camels are strong and it will not majorly hurt them. And if that doesn’t work you can shove a stick in between one of the camel’s mouth so they can’t bite down and hurt the other one. The only thing about this is they might get angry and start chasing you instead. Hopefully they won’t get too angry and will only be frustrated for a minute. If they start to chase you for longer you can try to distract them by throwing something like a cloth in their face and run. Run for as long as you can, eventually the camel will be bored and go back. Meanwhile the other camel will have retreated from the fight a while ago, glad they have survived. I hope none of my camels get in another fight like that again!

Taking Care of Camels (Shabanu #2)

I just went to the Sibi fair. It was so exciting, I love going every year, even though it has a long walk. But, when we were there we sold Guluband. I can’t believe dadi could do this. My closest camel, gone forever. I don’t think I’ll ever find a camel as good as him. Dadi said he wouldn’t. I know we need more wealth, but I am so sad now. It’s like there is a hole in my heart where Guluband used to be and I don’t know if i’ll ever be as close to a camel. We recently pierced the noses of some of our camels, like Xhush Dil. My advice is to always make sure that no one is near the front of the camel because that is where the tend to thrash around the most. Tie the rear legs together softly, but tight enough so they gently fall to the ground. You should always do this with lots of people to make it easier. A trick I have to make them calm down is to feed them something sweet, so they don’t notice what you’re trying to do. I use lumps of sugar for my camels, they can’t resist sugar. After you are done with the piercing part, untie the rear legs. When they are calmer put mint water on the hole. By now it should hurt much less. I hope to have  have more camels noses pierced by Phulan’s wedding.

Perspective Drawing

Lucia Street 2The perspective drawing has been a little bit difficult. The hardest part has been drawing the windows. I think my perspective drawing has been coming out well. I am very happy with it. The hardest part about moving from our shape drawings to our street drawings is doing doors and windows. It is hard because the length of the window or door has to be vertical, while the width has to slanted.

Are Humans Following The Rules?

This article is about how when manatees need to travel to warmer waters tourists crowd them and pet them. And the manatees get stressed out because people are crowding them, so they can’t rest with so many people crowding them. I think this connects to everything is connected because humans are doing something that they are not even meaning to do. And since everything is connected it effects manatees. Humans are not following the rules, but it is on accident because they don’t know the rules. I think they should make it so less people can swim with the sharks, and they should wait in between each time so they can swim away and more can come.

Exit Polling

On the day of the New York Primary we went out to exit poll. We went outside of the voting area and waited till someone came out. Once someone came out we approached them and asked them if they voted. If they voted, we asked them more questions on a sheet of paper. If they didn’t we wouldn’t ask them any more questions.

Something I learned during exit polling is some people will be very busy, and just walk past you after you approach them. Three people walked straight past me. I also learned that there are a bunch of different times you could vote. Some things that surprised me was that most of the peoples answers were Hillary Clinton. I thought it was mostly going to be Bernie Sanders. Something else that surprised was that the data recorders got the percentages correct for the neighborhood.

My experience polling was very fun. I completed all the sheets on my clipboard. Some people were really nice. Someone didn’t want to say who they voted for so we did not email that to the data collectors. It was also challenging to go up to people and ask them questions.

My Canopic Jar

This is my Canopic Jar. There were four different jars we could do. I chose to do the jackal head. We made them out of clay then glazed them. You could choose to paint on an over glaze, but I decided not to.

My Ushabti

Lucia UshabtiLucia Glaze 1

In art we made Ushabtis. Ushabtis are statues that Ancient Egyptians put in tombs. first I shaped mine out of clay. Then I added markings that Ancient Egyptians would put on there Ushabtis. After that I glazed mine then over glazed it. You didn’t need to put on an over glaze, but I decided to. The part I most like about my Ushabti is the markings. The best part for me was shaping my Ushabti. It was very fun making.

My Tomb Painting

Lucia Painting

This is my Tomb painting. We made our tomb paintings in art. We made them for the tomb, because in an Egyptian tombs they would engrave pictures into the walls. First we sketched it, then we drew it, then we over lined it in sharpie, and then we colored it in with water color. Mine is of the goddess Isis with hieroglyphics in the background.

Shark Tank

In Science we played a game called Shark Tank. There was one shark, four minnows and  lots of seaweed in the simulation. Every round the shark had to eat two minnows to survive, the minnows had to eat one seaweed, and the seaweed couldn’t eat anything. If each creature ate what they needed to, they could reproduce. If a seaweed survived, it could reproduce. We had two simulations, the first had four rounds and the second had five rounds. The chart above shows information about the second simulation. Our goal was to make the populations grow or stay the same each round. We accomplished our goal. We used a strategy that made sure the shark didn’t eat too many minnows each round, and the minnows didn’t eat too much seaweed. This way the starting populations would not get smaller but would either grow or stay the same. I think if we continued this strategy, we would get the same results. I think this teaches us that if everyone only eats what they need to survive and not too much, no species will go extinct.
