Egyptian Tomb: Canopic Jar

In art we made canopic jars for the tomb. First we made the base out of clay and made pinch pot. Then we made the head also out of clay. Next we used 2 different glazes. An under glaze and over glaze. The over glaze was shiny and the under glaze just gave the clay color. Egyptians used canopic jars to put the organs of the dead person in.

Charlie’s Shark Tank Post

Hi everyone,

In science we are doing a simulation with sharks, minnows, and seaweed. We went outside and since there are 20 people in my class 14 of us were seaweed, 5 were minnows and 1 person was the shark. Minnows had to eat 1 seaweed to survive. Sharks had to eat 2 minnows to survive. Seaweeds could not move so they just had to stay alive. I realized that the shark stayed the same in every round and at one point died because the minnows were always hiding in there cave that the shark didn’t fit inside of. Then there was more and more seaweeds because when a seaweed stays alive it also reproduces every round. finally the seaweed died because the the minnows couldn’t be eaten by anything. Since the sharks and seaweed died the minnows had nothing to eat so they would have died too. I think this teaches us that it’s better to have a bigger population than a smaller population that has an advantage in there surroundings.

The New York Yankees by Matt Chri

The title of my book is The New York Yankees, The Most Successful Team in Major League History written by Matt Christopher. The setting of the book takes place in all four Yankee Stadiums. The first stadium was Hilltop Park, next The Polo Grounds followed by the two Yankee Stadiums.  The main characters were Yankees stars throughout the 1900’s. For example, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Joe DiMaggio, Reggie Jackson and Yogi Berra.  There were two major issues, other than baseball related events, that postponed games during a season.  They were World War II and 9/11.

When the Yankees first started, they were very good.  Then, the Mets got better and they took most of the Yankees fans away. Then the Yankees traded for Babe Ruth who was really good. But he was also known for arguing and having a bad temper. But the gamble to trade for him paid off because he got 60 home runs in one season.  Then the Yankees got even better by getting Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio.  After a couple of seasons, Lou Gehrig got sick and was diagnosed with ALS which was then renamed Lou Gehrig’s disease (after he died).  After a while, Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio got old and retired and for a couple of years, the Yankees were very bad.  But their luck was not over.  A young star from the minor leagues went to the Yankees, his name was Mickey Mantle and all the sudden, they were good again.  After awhile, he started getting old and retired.  Again, the Yankees struggled for some time. But all hope was not lost when they got Reggie Jackson, a free agent. It was a big gamble because he had a huge ego but it worked out. In more recent past, the Yankees acquired big stars named Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriquez.  In their entire history, the Yankees have won 27 championships, the most in any major league sport and will probably have future stars yet again.

I enjoyed the book a lot. I think it gives you a lot of facts about the Yankees and tells you about each one of their stars.  I think the writer did a good job of giving details of each season.  A reader who likes the Yankees or baseball would enjoy this book. Also, if you like sports in general, I think you would like the book. I would rate this book four stars.

Charlie’s Music Post

Hi everyone,

In music we are composing pieces in Noteflight. First we learned the major and minor chords. Then we learned how to make chord progressions like c, e, g. After that we made an another section which we called a B section. Next we added an ending and articulations which makes a certain note sound different from the others. Finally we added a lot more instruments to our pieces. Overall it was really fun to make the composition!

Charlie’s Brooklyn Museum Blog Post

Hi everyone,

My topic was materials. My experience giving my docent talk at The Brooklyn Museum was fun because you get tell the people in your group about what you learned and get to hear cool things that other people in your group learned. Sometimes I get nervous when I performing something but, this time I did not. I felt good because I liked teaching people about things I know and they don’t. One thing I learned about note-taking is you should write in your own words. When it comes to taking notes, I used to write in long sentences, but now I write in small notes. One thing that is still challenging for me about note taking is I still have to look at a book.

Charlie’s Book Partners Blog Post

Hi everyone,

My partner and I read When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead. Our partnership was really good because we both liked the book a lot and would share some interesting parts and confusing parts of the story at school. I’m proud that I finished my book. One challenge for me was that sometimes my partner and I would read a different number of pages in our book so we had to wait for the other person to catch up.

Charlie’s FBI vs. Apple Blog Post

I agree with Apple more than the FBI. I feel that if the government asks Apple to make something that can get into any phone, which could possibly get into the wrong hands, security for everyone is at risk.  If Apple does have to make a “back door” into its IOS phone system, then Apple customers will feel less protected. I understand why the FBI needs to get into a criminal’s phone history but I think it is too big of a risk.  In general. the privacy of Americans needs to be protected in any way, shape or form.

Gun Violence Post

Hi everyone,

In class today we had a MLK assembly about gun violence and gun safety.  We learned that people have too much assess to guns. We heard a speech from President Obama said about gun violence and how we should control it. He said that “if a finger print can open your phone, why can’t we do that with guns?” He also spoke about guns being left in the wrong place where children can mistakenly use them.

After school, I had a conversation with my mom about gun violence. We both agreed that there should be no guns anywhere in the world. We understand that the exception might be for policemen and women and members of the armed forces.  We understand that hunting is a sport but if someone lies and uses a gun for another reason, it can cause major problems.  We came to ending point in our talk that if no one had guns, then there would much less gun violence and murders.

Hi everyone,

In art we made texture collages. We made 6 different textures to put in our collages. I learned that there are 2 types of textures: visual textures and physical textures. This is my best work because I made and used really cool textures.

Charlie’s Zotrobe

Hi everyone,

In art I made a zoetrope. A zoetrope is kind of like slide show but it moves very small in each of the 12 panels we made. I learned that when you make zoetrope there has to be very small differences in each panel so you can tell what’s going on. This is my best work because I put a lot of detail when I was making my zoetrope.
