Peru Trip!!

This spring break I went to Peru with Spanish class. One of my favorite things we did was going to Machu Pichu. It was so cool and really beautiful. We got to walk around and see all of the ruins but there were a lot of stairs. I also loved dong the community service thing. It was fun to be able to help and and make someones school life better. The next day we met with kids our age and we got to talk to them.

Teach-In

Last week we had the social justice teach-in. My group is Women’s Education and we had a really good time doing our teach-in. I think that our group did a good job delivering our workshop but our second one was a lot better than the first. We started the first one a little later than planned because it took people a while to get there but we kind of ran out of time in the end and had to rush things. We skipped a couple parts of our slideshow. Our second workshop went so much better. We started earlier and got to go through everything a little more slowly. The activity went really well and I’m glad that we changed it. Our first idea was to do life sized figures but in the end we decided to make them smaller.

Personal Project

This past week I’ve started my personal project and I really like it. It’s inspired by Lisa Le Quelenec. She does watercolor paintings of the water and the sky. I really like her paintings so that’s why I decided to base my project around her.

Social Justice Interviews

Yesterday me and my social justice group had an interview with someone from the WEP (Women’s Education Project). We talked about the work she does and her experience in other countries. She gave us the opportunity to Skype with some girls in India that study and the WEP center. I’m so excited to be able to have this opportunity because we get to interview them and talked to them about their lives. We get to talk to someone who is actually affected by this social injustice.

Social Justice

Recently in the social justice project, my group and I have been on a couple fieldworks. Our most recent fieldwork was very successful and we learned a lot about our topic. We went to talk to a woman that worked at Girl Rising. We talked about the Girl Rising film and came up with an idea on how to screen the movie to the school. Iḿ excited to share the stories of those girls from the movie with our middle school.

Womens March

This past week I went to the women’s march and it was a lot of fun. I went with Piper, Emma D, Marlo, Tilda, and Olivia. Even though we weren’t marching that it much it was still very empowering to go and stand among all the inspirational women and men. I loved seeing all the signs and cheering.

Finger Print Project

I am almost done with my fingerprint project and I’m really happy with it. I’m having fun making it and it really cool. This is kind of like the project. We outline our fingerprints and then we paint them with ink.

Social Justice Book

Over break I read “I Am Malala” for my social justice book. It was a good book but it wasn’t really about our topic, Women’s Education. It was interesting to read about her story and her life but I think we were expecting a little more about the injustice towards women.

Science Showcase

Last week we had a science showcase where we all showed what we have been working on in science. My group made a hand-crank phone charger that makes 5 volts of energy. It can charge a charger case. It ws fun to make.

Social Justice Project

I like doing social justice. We have our first fieldwork on Wednesday and I’m very excited. It should be a great interview. We are going to talk about speaking with girls in India. I am excited and honored to have this experience. We are interviewing Zoe and Danielle from Women Education Project.
