We have recently just started doing poems and it is a lot harder than I rememberd. I feel like poetry this year was a bit challenging. I thought it was challenging because we did more than just write poems. For example when we were looking at Rumis poems we had to try and define what the poem meant. We also learned about poets tools. Poets tools are what we were focusing on when we were looking at Rumis poems. The poet tools we used were, imagery, metaphor, compare, contrast, and symbolism. Another thing we did was learn about haikus. Haikus were pretty challening too because we had to do a certain amount of syllables but make our poem good at the same time. Our haikus also had to mean something or have a story being told through the poem like the Rumi poems.

New York themed haiku

Commute, 6:A.M

  From light to dark shade,

Old brownstones to skyscrapers,

Rapidly changing.

This poem is where we had to pick the first scentance of a book.

Thunder and lightning

Our territory, ours.

The air split with a piercing crack and thunder growled in the distance.

Every second of every day more than a hundred lightning bolts strike the earth.
