My Science Ecology Action Project

Here is my Ecology Action Project presentation! In science class, we were asked to come up with innovative solutions in order to bring nature into the city. We were asked the question “can nature and cities coexist?” My group decided to focus on the aquaponics system, and compare it to dirt grown plants. One group based their experiment on aquaponics, and our group focused on dirt grown plants. The aquaponics system is a system the pumps fish water up to plants, giving them water and nutrients. We grew lettuce, basil and arugula, and compared it to the aquaponics, in order to see which plants would grow better. After doing the experiment, we weren’t able to gather any information from the aquaponics group because their fish died, after getting a disease, and hurt the plants. We came to the conclusion that even though aquaponics are resourceful, they are not extremely reliable, and dirt grown plants are better.

My name is Margaret and I'm part of the refugee social justice group. Only 1% of refugees are resettled, and the rest of them must either stay in danger or leave illegally. Even those who are resettled face homelessness, poverty, and many other issues a lot of us are lucky to not have to face. Our government has lowered the amount of refugees we let in by 50%, and until we make our voices heard.
