I would walk a mile for an education because some 46 million African children have never set foot in a classroom. I am fortunate to live in one of the best cities and be privileged enough to have a great education at LREI. Considering the conditions that people are living in in Africa and rural parts of the US, I feel like everyone should be very fortunate about what they have, even if they feel like they are lesser than other people in this country. Did you know that over 50% of the population of America is in poverty? I find that astonishing because our government is supposed to make sure that everyone gets a fair chance. As quoted in by the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Why doesn’t our country protect our rights, when everyone is created equal. I think that this is unfair, so I want to put a stop to this. I will volunteer as much as I can to help this cause and try to end poverty while I am still in school. Did you know that 21.8% of children in the US live in poverty? I can’ do much, but I’m doing what I can. And so should you. There are many ways that you can get involved to stop poverty in America and in the world. You can donate. You can volunteer. You can do many things. I’ve definitely helped out. Will you?
