Carolyn Meyer has written more than fifty books in her lifetime, and to this day, is still writing new books. Her newest book is called The Wild Queen, and will come out in paperback in June. The Wild Queen is the seventh book in Carolyn Meyers Young Royals series.

The Wild Queen, by Carolyn Meyer is a book about the life of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots. The book is set in Scotland, where it is always cold, and the wind is always blowing. Mary Stuart has lived in the lap of luxury her whole life, growing up as the future Queen of Scotland. When her father dies, she sets sail for France, where her mother was born, at the small age of five.
Mary brings four friends along with her to France, all of them named Mary. Together the pack faces the challenges of living in France, learning to speak the language, and trying to forget their Scottish heritage. Mary grows up alongside her future husband, the Dauphin, and they are great friends. Mary’s life seems simple and easy, but it all changes at a party. When the Dauphins’ father, the King of France dies, Mary is pushed from powerful. “We had never argued. I had never raised my voice to my husband. He looked at me, startled. But he shook his head and would not answer. I understood then that I would have no influence over my husband. His first allegiance was to his mother, not me. He would do what she told him, and not what I asked” (Meyer, page 184). Mary slowly realizes that she will live her whole life in obedience if she doesn’t act, and sets out to try and change her life.

I greatly enjoyed reading The Wild Queen. It was a book filled with passion, love, and interesting facts. Carolyn Meyer gave you a hint on what life was like being a medieval Queen, but took her own twist on it, developing a great book. If you like to read historical fiction books, this is a book for you.
