On Monday, January 14th, 32,00 teachers in LA left their jobs to go on strike. This leaves 600,000 students without teachers. This strike is different to other strikes that teachers have gone on. This one is not about pay raise. It is about the staff- teachers want fully staffed schools, however, there are issues about how to create funds to pay so many new staff members. Despite the teachers being on strike, the students still have to go to school. There are substitute teachers working hard to keep the students learning, but school is not the same for the students. Some parents are even scared to send their children to school, because of how understaffed some schools are. Because the number of students is so much more than the number of adults, some parents don’t want to risk anything bad happening to their children at school. Right now it is still unclear when the strike will end, and what the result of it will be for the teachers, and the students.
