Thanksgiving in Other Countries
Although many other countries have different traditions, many of them celebrate Thanksgiving, on different dates and in different ways. Canada’s Thanksgiving day is on the second Monday of October and is 50 years older than America’s. It is very similar to USA’s thanksgiving food-wise. They eat pumpkin pie, turkey, stuffing, etc. But, It is also different in many ways. The day after is not a huge shopping day (Black Friday), instead, it is the day after Christmas! It is also a big hiking day, it is a tradition for many Canadians to take a nice walk on Thanksgiving. They also have different traditions in Germany for Thanksgiving. It is often celebrated on the First Sunday of October. It is more often celebrated in churches than in families. It is called Erntedankfest and is a harvesting festival. They do eat turkeys but other foods are favored like geese and hens. Now that you know a little bit about other cultures Thanksgiving, you should learn more if you are traveling.
