California fires

Many people have probably heard about the deadly fires that have been rapidly spreading across California. These fires have been going on for 11 days. Due to these fires, more than 11,700 homes are destroyed, at least 77 people are dead, and over 1,000 people are missing. There is a small piece of good news. There is rain expected to fall soon, about 4-6 inches later this week. This rain should stifle some of the fires, as well as help clear the heavily polluted now dangerous air that is now covering Northern California. However, this rain might also be a bad thing. Because the earth is so badly damaged from the fire, this area is at risk of getting mudslides. This would be very dangerous, especially for firefighters battling the fires. There is also the risk of debris flows. There is so much ash everywhere, and when the rain comes it will cause the debris to come to move very quickly around. Fire officials think that even though this fire has slowed since it started, it is only halfway done. It is expected to completely end around November 30th.
