Midterms

Hi! We are Kate, Shoshi, and Violet, and we are going to be telling you about some things that are going on in the news and in the world right now. One event that recently happened is the midterm elections! During these elections, anyone eighteen had the ability to vote for all members of the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate. These elections are so important because who is in our House of Representatives and our Senate could make a huge difference to what happens to our country next. After the results of the voting were released, for the senate, 51% of the seats are republican, 44% is democratic, and 2% is other parties. 97 out of the 100 seats are currently declared. In the House of Representatives there are 223 democratic seats, and 196 republican seats. Our president, Donald Trump, is republican. The House is now mostly democratic. This means that if Trumps wants to pass a law that the democrats don’t want, because they have the majority of the House, they are able to stop the bill from going through. The midterms were a very big event in this years news and politics, and was highly televised and written about.
