We are here to share an artist of the week. This week’s artist is Frank Ocean!
We are both 8th graders that really enjoy listening to music. This week, we are focusing on one of our favorite artists. Give us suggestions on what artists to talk about at our emails (25oonak@lrei.org and 25ceciliac@lrei.org)! Frank Ocean is an artist from New Orleans, Louisiana and started making music in LA in 2011. In total so far, he’s put out two studio albums, one mixtape, one visual album, and twenty-one singles. The first music he put out in 2011 was the mixtape Nostalgia, Ultra and the singles Novacane and Swim Good. Later, in 2012, he released Channel Orange, his first ever album, along with his visual album, Endless. Channel Orange has earned many awards, including the RIAA (gold). He put out many singles in 2012 as well as one in 2013, which were all added to Channel Orange. 2016 was a very good year for Frank Ocean. He put out his most recent album, along with his visual album and five singles in 2016. His album, Blond, grossed over 348,000 sales in the US. Blond remains to be many Frank Ocean fan’s favorite album. Since 2016, he has put out five more singles, but no albums!
Oona’s favorite songs of Frank Ocean’s: Fertilizer, Crack Rock, Pyramids, Forrest Gump, Bad Religion (all from Channel Orange) and Godspeed, White Ferrari, Nights, and Solo (all from Blonde). Favorite singles: Moon River, Provider, Biking, Novacane, and Swim good. Honorable mentions include: Strawberry Swing (Nostalgia, Ultra), Pink+White, Ivy (Blond) and Sierra Leone (Channel Orange). As you can probably tell, I really like Frank Ocean.
CC’s Favorite songs of Frank Ocean’s: Forrest Gump, Fertilizer, Godspeed, Super Rich Kids, Sweet Life, Biking, Novacane. My all time favorites are Strawberry Swing, Pink + White, Be Yourself + Nikes. Hope this was helpful, and we will be back next edition with another artist.
