Halloween is a holiday Americans celebrate today, by dressing up and receiving candy. It’s a joyful time for kids and families, to go pumpkin picking, and decorate their homes with spooky declarations. This seems like a holiday that originated in America, but it in fact didn’t. Here is a quick summary of how Halloween began.
Halloween originated as a festival for Samhain, celebrated by the Celtic religion all over Europe. The Celtic people believed that in the fall the dead would come out of their graves as ghosts. These people would gather together for these festivals to scare away the “ghosts” and “spirits”. Halloween was later changed again by Christians who made the day to scare away the dead the evening before November 1st Saint’s day. Halloween was later on brought to America by many different people, and is celebrated on October 31st, by kids dressing up and collecting candy.
