Burn For Burn
By Chloe
In Siobanan Vivian and Jenny Han’s book Burn for Burn, the story begins in the beginning of senior year. Mary, Kat, and Lillia have nothing in common. Kat is the tough girl of the school who doesn’t care about what others think of her, Lillia is the popular one who walked the campus like she owned it alongside with her evil best friend Rennie. And then there’s Mary. Mary appears to be the sweet little girl who’s head is stuck in a dream, but turns out having a past darker than any of the other girls. So what brought these girls together? Where does the story begin? In the bathroom of Jar Island High.
Kat was just spit on by Rennie and is cleaning off, Lillia is reapplying makeup, and Mary’s crying in the stall. They begin talking and something sparks; they realize they had all been wronged by three classmates and they want revenge. Kat wants revenge on a rumor-spreading ex-friend who happens to be Lillia’s best-friend, Mary on a bully who made her life a living nightmare in the seventh grade, and Lillia on a boy who not only cheated on her, but appears to be “interested” in Lillia’s 14 year old sister. These girls are mad, and they’re ready to get revenge, even if it means breaking the rules.
