With a nose for danger and a eye for cases, Detective Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle, finds one table at a bar, that just reeks of danger, and glows with mystery. He spends the night on the beat, and is soon wrapped up in one of the largest cases known today, also, as if that wasn’t enough, this is all based on a true story.
Starring Gene Hackman as Detective Doyle, and Roy Scheider as Buddy Russo, this movie was excellently cast, showing Doyle as a brutal yet very effective detective, routinely running drug busts on the same bar, and roughing up the patrons.
This movie is a true crime thriller set in New York, mainly Brooklyn, and I have been to several of the places where it was filmed. The plot is a bit out there, and hard to follow, but the movie comes together in the end. Four Swords Up!
