Four students interview Vanessa Grigoriadis about rape on college campuses

My group and I are embarking on a social justice project to end rape on college campuses. We have recently been trying to get in touch with organizations such as EROC, and have been trying to contact victims of campus rape. Recently, the four of us conducted and interview with a writer that worked at New York Magazine. We asked her questions about her interview with Emma Sulkowicz, a young woman who was assaulted on campus. We spoke with her about her views on campus rape, and whether she thought if a girl dressed a certain way was she “asking for it”. We also talked about how she thinks colleges are handling these complaints. She said she feels like these complaints are being swept under the rug, and not taken seriously. I felt this to be true because no action was being taken. I found it especially surprising to find out that Emma’s attacker was still allowed to attend the university. In the interview, Vanessa talked about her perception of women in the media, and how the internet ushered in “rape culture”. All in all, this interview gave me a new perspective on rape on campus.

My name is Destiny Benson. I am in the eight grade and Little Red SchoolHouse, and my group and I a learning about our social justice topic, which is ending rape on campus. We have done interviews, gone to a rally, and attended a lecture. We are learning about what we can do to stop rape on campus, as it has recently become a major topic, that is getting much more media attention. We hope to bring even more attention to this topic, and expand our horizons about it. In my free time, I like to read, write, and watch tv.
