**Begin formulating an opinion about why we have paired the novel Part-Time Indian with the Reconstruction Era. What are the thematic links between them? Speculate about what they might be in preparation for our culminating activity which is an in-class writing next week.

Due Wednesday:

A. Freedom’s Unfinished Revolution: Read pages 263-265, and make notes on the “Retreat from Reconstruction Grid” that you made in class.  If you were not here, the grid is basically a blank paper folded into 4 rectangles.  Each one has a title and notes for that section are put into the box with the corresponding title.

Sections of FRONT and BACK of Retreat from Reconstruction Grid:

  1. KKK and Vigilante Violence / Congress Response to Vigilante Violence

  3. The Retreat on Civil Rights
  4. The Retreat of the Republican party
