le 28 octobre

Room Projects are DUE at the end of the class tomorrow. Be ready to make your scene completely during the class.

You will need:

1. a box

2. the completed sentences edited and in the correct order

3. the pictures already printed out

4. labels of the items

5. any other materials that you want to use (cardboard, decorations, etc.)

YOU MAY NOT GO TO THE ART ROOM TO GATHER SUPPLIES!!!

If you are late with this project, there will be points subtracted from the final grade. This must be turned in tomorrow so I can count it in the first quarter, since you did most of it before Williamsburg…

le 26 octobre

Your rough drafts of both sentence structures should be corrected and put into the proper final draft form tomorrow by the end of the class. You all received the versions to correct today for the second set of sentences.

Bring the pictures and your boxes no later than Thursday so that you can put the final project together. It is due by the END of class on Thursday of this week.

le 21 octobre

Here is your assignment for next Monday! You already have notes about this, but this is to clarify the details.

1. You should have all of your pictures by now for your imaginary room (20 minimum);

2. You should have your descriptive sentences in the fnal draft form (if you did not turn those in and then correct them, they will lose 5 points per day starting on Monday of next week);

3. You should have a sketch of your room setup so that you can write the sentences that are due on Monday.

Here are the guidelines for the sentences:

1. You must use the following prepositions:

devant (in front of), derriere (behind), sur (on), sous (under), dans (in), a cote de (next to), loin de (far from), pres de (next to), a gauche de (to the left of), a droite de (to the right of), en face de (facing)

There will be repetition of some of these in order to have enough for the sentences.

Keep in mind the rules about the contractions:

de+le= du

de+les=des

de+l’=de l’

de+la=de la

Example of  sentences: La table est loin de le livre=La table est loin du livre.

Le livres est pres de les chaises=Les livres sont pres des chaises.

Pay attention to whether you should use “est” or “sont”. This depends on the first noun in your sentence. Is it singular or plural?

Example: La table est…/Les chaises sont…

Sentence structure: Start with one item and state where it is in relation to another item. The item at the END of the first sentence will be the first noun in the next sentence, etc. until you get all around the room.

le 15 octobre

Bring your completed sentences that you have corrected as well as the pictures for the room projects. You should have a total of 20 sentences and 20 pictures. This includes my list and your list. See previous blogs for details about the items.

le 13 octobre

You will continue working on your project this week. You should already have pictures of the items that you chose for you imaginary room last week.

However, as discussed during the class on Friday, if you chose some of the basic things that I will require for everyone, you need to find new items by the next class. Be sure that you have the proper “le”, “la” or “l'”. Use a dictionary if you are not able to find it elsewhere. There are dictionaries that I can lend to you to use in school.

Required items for everyone’s room:

le lit, la table, la fenetre, la porte, le tapis, le bureau, la chaise, l’ordinateur, l’etagere, les livres

Homework: Write a sentence for each of your items using an adjective. For example:

Le livre est interessant.

La table est interessante.

Make sure that the adjectives agree with the noun. You must use a different adjective for each sentence, for a total of 10 minimum. Some of you chose more than 10 items. You will receive extra credit for those.

le 10 octobre

In the textbook, complete activities 9 and 12 on p. 145. Pay attention to the prepositions (the vocabulary that we looked at on the board yesterday with the cat!). These words will be used in your project. Write complete sentences in French.

le 8 octobre

Tomorrow we will have the listening comprehension part of the test. Review your sentences.

Begin to compile the items that you will want to have in your imaginary “ideal” bedroom. You need to have at least 10 of your own things in your room in addition to the list that I will give you to include in the project.

You can download pictures, cut them out from magazines, or draw them (if you are a very good artist!). Two great sources are “Pottery Barn Kids” and “Ikea”. You will need to find the vocabulary for the items. Be creative and have fun! Fountains and trampolines are some examples of cool things to have in your room.

Homework for next time: Come with your vocabulary words in French of the items that you have chosen.

le 6 octobre

Your Test is on Thursday of this week. Please see the blog entry on le 2 octobre for the details. You should be studying by now! Come to IWP tomorrow if you want to practice oral questions using the interrogative expressions.

E7:

Find a picture of either a celebrity, a cartoon character, or a political figure and have it available to share in the class next time we meet.

Write 10 sentences describing this individual so that your classmates will be able to try to guess his/her identity.

Use 10 different adjectives, writing 5 affirmative (Il/Elle est…) and 5 negative (Il/Elle n’est pas…) sentences.

DO NOT SHARE YOUR INFORMATION!!! This is a secret until we do the activity.
