Weekly seminar during the Friday afternoon Activity Period for students to research topics and write bills to present at the Packer Collegiate Model Congress in the Spring.

January 10

BILLS ARE DUE THIS FRIDAY in rough draft form.

See me with any questions that you may have!

February 4

Model Congress tomorrow:

I will leave bills with notes on them to be revised by the you tomorrow. Janice or another sub will have them.

1. All bills need to be completed, either first draft form, or revised form, by the end of this class. Most of them are done for the most part. Put a hard copy on my desk (give to the teacher) AND save in the Model Congress folder.

2. Students need to print out a copy for the other teams (even if in first draft form only) to look at so that the students can write questions and comments in order to have a discussion next time. This is due by each team by next week (comments, etc. on other teams’ bills)

3. You can either:

a. use the remaining time today to work on your own speeches in favor of your own bill OR

b. Write a short pro about another delegation’s bill and a short con about an additional bill.

We will practice debating with the proper procedures in place in the next few weeks.

October 23

Since almost everyone is away from the building, we are not meeting today. However, come prepared with your top 2 choices for a bill next Friday. You should do some preliminary research to see if your ideas are possible!

If there are any new people not sure yet about joining, you have until next Friday to decide…

October 8

We will have our first meeting this Friday! This will be an informational session for the new members and an opportunity for the “experts” to share their knowledge and anecdotes about the experience. If you have any bills, notes and handouts from last year please bring them. If you know of anyone who you think would be good at debating or who has expressed interest, please bring them along!

We may be in the Art Room, but check the blog again on Friday morning to see if it has been changed or I will find you to tell you!
