For Wednesday, October 13: Writing Workshop assignment #1- Write for 20-30 minutes and describe your surroundings (ie. subway/bus,on a bench, in your room).  Think of the colors, shapes, emotions, and smells.  You may begin with a list associated with the space you choose and then use that to enhance/aid your writing.

1. Read TBAS, Prologue and Chapter 1 (pages 16-38, 20 pages of reading and be sure to look at illustrations as well)

2. Select three passages you find striking, interesting, important or confusing. Record the page number of each passage, and its opening and closing lines.

3. Using the responsive writing rubric to guide you, write a paragraph about each passage saying why you chose it and commenting upon it (3 paragraphs total).  Responsive Writing RubricREV

Due Tomorrow:

1. Bring in your writer’s notebook!

2. Be sure you have an electronic copy (email, flash drive or on a computer) of your “Theme B” poem AND your Artist Action Statement. No exceptions.

3. Set up your Family/Friend Interview. Select the person, set the time, and decide upon an event.  Come prepared to share all of this information.

4. Begin reading for Thursday’s To Be a Slave (TBAS) assignment (see below).

Friday, October 1

Due Monday:

1. Your 100% PERFECT re-re-revised version of “Theme for English B” printed by 8:20!

2. Annotate the essay “Ordinary People in Their Own Words” by Milton Meltzer following the exercise we did in class.  ONLY READ THE BOXED PORTIONS. (The essay itself is not loaded on to the blog, so if you were absent, you will have to get a copy from a classmate or on Monday).  Go on to complete the handout when you are done annotating and reading.  MeltzerAnnotation2010

Homework:

1. Work on Action Art for at least one hour.

2. Tomorrow (Wednesday) will be a preview and work day.

3. Bring in what you have for the preview.  Action Art is due Thursday 9/30.

1. Pack lunch with drink and bring rain gear for field trip.

2. Spend 45 minutes (at least) on Action Art.
