Remember our trip to Prospect Park tomorrow! You need clothes that will work for cleaning up the park, rain gear (just in case) and also a bag lunch and a drink. Please don’t forget to eat breakfast!

Homework Due Friday, September 28:

Revise your “Theme for English B” poem to be on one page, using your peer editor’s comments, and our lesson today on “pithy” poetry. Do not use the regular school heading–just title, poem and don’t forget “Inspired by Langston Hughes”.

Due Monday, October 1:

Preparation for Resistance to Slavery Essay
To Be A Slave

1. Reading
Read Chapter 4- READ ONLY the 1st 20 pages (pp. 76-96)

2. Writing:

a. Identify and describe the 2 types of slavery.

b. Go on to choose two different examples of resistance that particularly interest you.

Describe each example, say why each struck you, and record the page number of a passage that mentions it.

NOTE:
You should have one thoughtful paragraph commenting on, asking questions about and/or making connections with each example of resistance you selected. Use the responsive writing rubric to guide your work, if helpful.

c. Comment on what you think the goal of each example of resistance was for the slave (for example, maintaining dignity or hope).
