Tuesday, January 29
Due Wednesday, January 30
1. Answer the question about the “Word Play” piece and write two poems on great words (or 2 poems on one word!).
2. Type up (if you didn’t already) your comments and reflection on the visual gallery to be at least 3/4 of a page long with the proper heading. These will be posted.
3. Bring in your comments sheet from the visual gallery.
Due Thursday, January 31
You have two nights to prepare for our next Socratic Seminar on “Lady L,” the Statue of Liberty, and all she symbolizes. Complete the Lady L packet (click here for directions, but the last two of the readings you have to get from me in person): read, annotate, and reflect on the following 4 texts:
1. Age of Extremes Chapter 7, “Lady L” (you completed this reading for Tuesday’s class)
2. Emma Lazarus poem, “The New Collossus” (reprinted on page 49 of Age of Extremes)
3. Sam Hamod poem, “Dying with the Wrong Name” (ask me)
4. Julius Lester essay, “Acknowledging the Past” (ask me)
Attach your definitions AND NOTES to the packet; your notes on all the writings must be at least one page typed. I will collect these after the Socratic Seminar–be ultra prepared. Your preparation will be scored!
